A VERY RARE Herend 19th Century (c.1890), 6 Piece Coffee Set of Cornucopia Tupini Pattern (7). To consist of 1 coffee pot and 6 demi-tasse cups and saucers. All pieces bear the Herend mark for c.1890. The birth of the Tupini pattern - also known as the Cornucopia Tupini pattern - in 1870 was inspired by Arabian ceramics glittering in enamel colours. Borrowing just a handful of motifs from the mysterious Orient, the masters of Herend conjured up this pattern to embrace the heated, spicy, intoxicating fairy world of the Arabian Nights. Perhaps that is why it caught the eye of the Shah of Persia, who ordered it from Herend. This set comes from a private collection.Condition report: Excellent. Very minor wear to gilding. One saucer and one coffee cup show an indication of a tiny surface crack to glazing.
