Davenport green dessert service, painted with titled landscapes within green and gilt borders, to include two footed lidded tureens, two rectangular dishes, and five plates, printed and painted marks to bases, mid 19th century, (11) the tureens measure 20cm high Condition report: Overall fine crazing to most pieces. The gilding and enamel are generally in good order with only small signs of use. 1st tureen: finial restuck, one handle restuck, the base broken and restuck. 2nd tureen: finial restuck, both handles restuck (one stapled) hairline cracks to the base. Restuck chip to under rim. Rectangular dishes: both have short hairlines within the body emanating from the pierced areas. Plates: one plate cracked across the centre with associated foot chip. A collection of Victorian enamel dog and fox buttons and a brooch, comprising: a mid Victorian gold and enamel dog brooch by William Essex, signed and dated 1864, the circular disc enamelled with the head of a bloodhound after a detail from `Dignity & Impudence` after Sir Edwin Landseer, in a gold buckle mount, 4.5cm diameter; a similar button by William Essex, signed and dated 1882, 3.1cm diameter; two late Victorian enamel buttons by James (John) Bailey, both with the heads of boxers, both signed and dated 1883, each 2.3cm diameter; two further enamel buttons with the heads of boxers by William Essex, both signed and dated 1862, 2.1cm diameter; two mid Victorian enamel buttons by William Essex, one with the head of a Bernese mountain dog, the other of a bloodhound, both signed and dated 1862, each 2.1cm diameter; a late Victorian enamel button by W. B. Ford, signed and dated 1885, with the head of a lurcher in a gilt metal mount, 2.3cm diameter; a late Victorian enamel button, with the head of a Staffordshire terrier, unsigned and undated, 2.1cm diameter; and three mid Victorian enamel buttons by William Essex, each with the heads of foxes, all signed W. Essex and dated 1861 and 1862, each 2.1cm diameter (13) William Essex (1784?-1869), James (John) William Bailey (1831-1914) and William Bishop Ford (1832-1922). Both Bailey and Ford were pupils of William Essex. In 1839 Essex was appointed Enamel Painter in Ordinary to Princess Augusta, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
A late 19th century Renaissance Revival enamel crucifix pendant by Carlo Giuliano, circa 1880, the black enamelled cross with ropetwist and bead detail, a red enamelled heart at the top of the cross and white flower and green leaf detail, the cross bordered with blue enamelled roundels and the arms terminating with white enamelled trefoils, the arms and foot of the cross suspending baroque pearls, with an applied gold figure of Jesus secured to the cross by his hands, feet and head, the reverse with chased foliate detail, stamped with CG makers mark by the bale, 6.6cm long. Please note the pearls are untested and unwarranted as natural pearls.
