A rare Edwardian 9ct gold and double sided enamel decorated football medal for the Zingari League, the front centred with an enamelled portrait of a young gypsy girl within a pierced border inscribed "I Zingari Football League Season 1908-9", the reverse centred with an enamel roundel depicting a female upon horseback within a border inscribed "Valkyrie Champions Div One. H.L.Lloyd", length 3cm, approx 8.4g. The Zingari League was an amateur football competition based in Liverpool starting in 1895; the league continued to be run until 2006 when it merged with the Liverpool County Combination to form the new Liverpool County Premier League.
A rare Edwardian 9ct gold and enamel decorated football medal for the Zingari League, the shield shaped enamel central plaque depicting a female figure upon horseback beneath a Liver bird with border inscribed "I Zingari Combination 1905-6", the reverse inscribed "Valkyrie Champions H.Lloyd", made by Vaughton & Sons of Birmingham in velvet lined fitted gilt tooled red leather original box, length 3cm, approx 7.2ozt. Williams including Cheshire Football Association Amateur Cup Winners 1923, Northwich & District Football Association Senior Cup Competition 1922-3, Crewe & District Football Association Winners 1922-23, Bricker Cup Competition 1926, etc (a few examples unascribed) (26). CONDITION REPORT: Some examples (particularly silver) are covered with tarnish, and some examples have enamel decoration damaged.
