He made a clock with a globe movement for the Chateau de la Meutte in 1772. That Roque incorporated a globe as a part of this clock is of no surprise when knowing his pedigree as both a maker and student. He started working with the famed mechanical expert Alexis Magny before becoming assistant to Claude-Siméon Passemant and making, in 1759, the mechanisms for Passemant's pair of moving globes as supplied to the marquis de Marigny who consequently offered them to the King. He made other mechanisms for Passemant's clocks including the Creation of the World clock exhibited in the Musée du Château de Versailles. Following the death of Passemant in 1769 Roque was received as a maître-horloger and continued living in the Vieux Louvre within the Colonnades building before moving in 1772 to the Passage du Saumon. Clocks signed for Roque are in many collections and museums including the Musée du Louvre and National des Techniques in Paris, the Hermitage Museum Saint Petersburg, the Museum de Bâle (Basel Museum) and in the Swedish Royal Collections.Reference Richard Redding, Switzerland, biography of Jean Léonard Roque, A Louis XVI Mantel Clock by Jean Léonard Roque.
