Victorian Coatbridge Volunteers (7th Lanarkshire RV) Gold Shooting Medal. A fine quality example, the obverse decorated with an enamel Royal Coat of Arms, crossed rifles and unit title. The reverse with engraved inscription “PRESENTED BY MATTHEW M. HENDERSON ESQ JEWELLER TO A & E COYS FOR COMPETITIVE COMPETITION “. It also lists the winners from 1889 to 1896. Stamped “9ct” and makers stamp D.F.T (David F. Turnbull of Glasgow). GC. Height 6.5cm The Jeweller David F. Turnbull of Sydney Court Argyle Street, Glasgow was found dying in his shop under mysterious circumstances in 1912

Lieutenant Reginald Dacres Rendel at the outbreak of the Great War applied for a Commission and this was granted into the 2nd Bn Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, he joined the Regiment at Aldershot and like fellow Officers was desperate to get to France with the fear the war would be over by Christmas. Orders finally arrived and he landed in France on the 26th November 1914. In May 1915 he was in the trenches at Richebourg St Vaast, on the 15th he was ordered “over the top” and lead his men across nomans land to his objective a German trench he was killed close to the German parapet. #11;Commander Herbert Leopold Rendel was joined the Royal Navy as a Cadet in 1907 and was appointed a Midshipman in 1911. In August 1914 with the rank of Sub Lieutenant he volunteered for Submarine Service and was posted to the Submarine B.6 in June 1915. He served at the Dardanelles and promoted to Lieutenant joined K.1 in November 1916. In November 1917, K.1 collided with the Submarine K4 of the Denmark coast and Lieut. Rendel was commended by Their Lordships on the occasion of her loss after the collision “for remaining in the control room, which was full of chlorine gas, after the crew had been ordered on deck, shutting off valves and breaking switches until he fainted.” In April 1918 he was given his own command this being the Submarine E.25. He was MID on the 16th April 1918 and awarded the Italian Order of the Crown LG 7th August 1918. He resigned his commission in 1920 due to ill health, but was recalled to the Fleet in April 1934, serving throughout WW2 at HMS Dolphin with the Submarine branch.#11;Lieutenant Reginald Aubrey Rendel was the oldest son of Commander H.L. Rendel He volunteered for service in the RN in 1940 and was commissioned Sub Lieutenant in 1942. He served on the Arctic Convoys and in June 1944 was part of the D-day landings. On the 26th December 1944 he was serving onboard HMS Capel, which was torpedoed by the German Submarine U-486, he was Killed with 7 fellow Officers the Captain and 67 Ratings. ...#11;Midshipman Guy Dacres Rendel was the youngest son of Commander H.L. Rendel, he saw brief service at the end of WW2 serving onboard the escort carrier H.M.S. Nairana, his participation in the Arctic convoys JW. 064 and RA. 064. His period in theatre was not long enough for the award of the Atlantic Star and his group represents full entitlement.

Universal plate with central VR and motto “Nec Aspera Terrent’ on a red and blue enamel ground, The interior with leather sweatband silk edging, partially detached. Paper label ‘Barton, Esq’. VGC Metal furniture re-gilded.
Swedish Officer’s Shako. The shako of dark blue cloth, with bullion cord decoration and to the front a bright gilt shako plate with rich blue enamel decoration. The patent black leather peak complimented with chinstrap and to the crown a black Yak hair plume. The interior with leather sweatband. Minor age wear, bullion cord dull, gilt bright.
A Staff Colonel’s Undress Tunic. A good example of the short-lived post-1911 ‘Frock B’ by Pulford & Sons. Fine blue serge, lapel collar with plain patch pockets and scarlet cloth gorget tabs. Small gilt GvR Staff buttons. Rank-badges in gilt and enamel. Medal ribbons for 1911 Coronation, India GS and QSA. Lining with label to Col RS Oxley Feb 1912. GC. Reginald Stewart Oxley (1863-1951), educated at Charterhouse and the RMC, had nearly all his regimental service in the KRRC and commanded the 1st Bn. 1907-11. However, he had had little active service as a regimental officer when, in March 1915, he was made GOC of 24th Bde. Brig-General Oxley’s baptism of fire as a commander was a wasteful failure involving heavy casualties. After a further apparent failure at the Somme in July 1916, he was dismissed. Thereafter he was given sundry Staff jobs at home before retiring in 1919.
German Third Reich DLV Flyer’s dagger by SMF Solingen A fine nickel plated example. Blue leather grip with black enamel swastika to centre of down swept crossguard on either side. Double edged polished blade bearing logo of SMF, Solingen. Housed in original leather and nickel mounted scabbard, with single suspension ring; scabbard throat stamped with winged swastika device. Generally VGC. After WWI Germany was forbidden an air force by the Treaty of Versailles however the Deutscher Luftsport-Verband (German Air-sport Association) was formed in March 1933 from various sports flying clubs and had branches for aeroplane, gliding and balloon flying. Under cover of the sporting DLV, many future Luftwaffe pilots trained to fly. DLV was embodied with the NSKK in March 1935 and 1st March 1937 Luftwaffe formed.

Badge. The Royal Sussex Regiment Victorian Officer’s foreign service helmet plate circa 1881-1901. A very fine gilt example of universal pattern converted from pre 1881 example whilst in service, the black velvet centre with regimental Maltese cross device ornamented in red, blue and green enamels superimposed on Roussillon plume. Mounted on the base of the wreath, a silver tri-part scroll “The Royal Sussex Regt”. Three screw posts to reverse. Enamel slightly defective and scroll detached one end otherwise VGC.
A pair of 20th century cloisonné vases decorated with dragons, height of both 23cm (one af), a pair of Japanese orange ground gilt heightened baluster vases, height of both 15cm and a similar decorative Japanese plate, diameter 25cm (af) (5). CONDITION REPORT Slight damage to neck of one cloisonne vase but enamel largely in place on both examples. Some general wear commensurate with age.

A Victorian hallmarked silver and enamel christening set comprising mug with gilded interior, spoon, fork and knife decorated with nursery rhyme style children in enamel, London 1883, marked C.E. for Charles Edwards, in original James Howell and Co Goldsmiths and Jewelers to the Queen and Prince and Princess of Wales Regent Street London fitted case, approx 7.2ozt. CONDITION REPORT There is damage to the enamel on the front of the christening mug and other general wear commensurate with age.

A Victorian oak clock back pedestal sideboard, the 9½ inch dial dated 1846 with a ring of Roman numerals picked out in black on abalone shell,within enamel and pierced brasswork in the form of a mayoral chain, with single winding hole for the timepiece movement, the carved oak back extensively carved and centred with a Salopian crest with motto inscribed 'Clemens et Fortis, the motto of William Clement, the well known Shrewsbury surgeon, the rectangular top with figural mounts over a long central frieze drawer flanked by a short mask carved drawer to each side, on two carved pedestal supports with ogee moulded skirting plinth, 228cm wide, 193cm high overall, 75cm deep Note: William Clement studied medicine and surgery at the Middlesex Hospital and Edinburgh Medical School, his mentor was the renowned surgeon Sir Charles Bell. Clement settled in Shrewsbury with a position as surgeon at the Salop Infirmary in 1835. He was elected a Councillor for the new Borough Council in 1835 and served with distinction on and off for 33 years, he was elected Mayor in 1861-62 and also became an MP, being returned unopposed in a by-election in 1865. The Clement memorial obelisk was erected in 1873. It stood outside the railway station until 1897, when the station was remodelled and it was moved to the Dingle.
