A Fine Empire Gilt Bronze Mantle Clock by Bergmiller à Paris, with a movement striking a single bell. The enamel dial set within an elongated oval pedestal raised on Greek sphinx, and surmounted by a lady holding a lamb seated upon a large chariot being drawn by butterflies and a winged cherub. The rectangular base adorned with gilt brass appliqués of flaming hearts and crossed torch with quiver of arrows. Raised on bell form feet. 17½ ins (44.5 cms) high, 13½ ins (34 cms) in width, 4 ins (10 cms) depth.
A Fine 19th Century Empire Style Siena Brocatelle Marble & Gilt Bronze Clock Set. The clock having a round enamel dial 4¾ ins (12 cms) in diameter inscribed 'a la Renaissance Faria 47&49 Bd. St. Martin', set into a gilt drum case surmounted by an eagle perched on a marble pedestal & festooned in garlands of flowers & foliage, with a decoratively pierced apron of tasselled drapery below the dial and a large ornately cast rosette pendulum. The two square marble supporting columns with figural Egyptianesque mounts and Sphinx finials leading down to a rectangular plinth base, 23 ins (59 cms) in height. The garniture urns having scroll handles coiled around face mask roundels to the tops, decorative scrolling shoulder bands and a collar of stiff leaves alternated with anthemion motifs rising from the round pedestal feet elevated in square stepped plinths, 15½ ins (39 cms) high.
A 19th Century Louis XV Style Black Tortoiseshell Boulle Bracket Clock by Lesage à Paris. The enamel numerals set within an embossed gilt metal dial with an Apollo sunburst face mask pendulum. The balloon case having a raised pediment surmounted by a putto seated upon an orb above the swept sides ornately inlaid with scrolls of foliate brass, and embellished with ormolu mounts cast in the form of asymmetric sprays of foliage. The arched glazed sides revealing the movement and the front having a winged cherub plaque with the signed enamel oval. Standing on scroll knop feet. 21 is (54 cms) in height, 10½ ins (27 cms) in width, 5 ins (13 cms) deep.

John Skinner, Exeter, A gentleman's gold pair cased watch, the white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals, gold spade hands and a subsidiary seconds dial, the chain fusee movement having turned pillars, a duplex escapement with the engraved bridge backcock to the plain, three arm steel balance having a diamond endstone, the backplate engraved with the name and serial number 'John Skinner, Exeter, No. 2507', both the inner and outer cases stamped with the case maker's initial's 'IF' and hallmarked for 18ct gold, London, diameter 58mm. * There were two makers called John Skinner, father and son, with the business starting in Exeter in the 1770's and continuing until 1846. The father was born in circa 1747 and apprenticed to the famous Honiton clockmaker Jerome Murch at a premium of £6 16s. 6d. He died in 1818, aged 71 and was succeeded by his son, also John, who placed a notice to that effect in the local paper. John junior continued making clocks of great quality including a regulator timepiece for the Devon & Exeter Institution Library which he set up for them on New Year's day 1819 where it still stands in it's niche in the wall. ** Provenance: Puslinch.

A gentleman's gold pair cased watch, the white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals, Arabic outer numerals and gold 'arrow' hands, the chain fusee movement having Egyptian pillars, a verge escapement with a pierced and engraved backcock to the plain, three arm brass balance, the backplate engraved with the maker's name and serial number 'Jno Gerard, London, 1073' and having a silvered regulation dial, the outer case stamped with the casemaker's initials 'HPC' and hallmarked for London, 1746, the associated inner case hallmarked for London, 1766, diameter 46mm. * John Ger(r)ard is recorded as working in London from 1714 until at least 1735 with a repeating watch in the Guildhall Museum. ** Provenance: Puslinch.
Henry Capt. A gentleman's 18ct gold hunting cased quarter repeat pocket watch, the circular white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, gold outer Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds dial, the cover inscribed on the inside 'Repetition No 31805 Henry Capt Geneva Demi = Chronometre 23 rubies', with glazed dust cover and visible movement with wolf-tooth winding in a plain gold case with original fitted leather case and attached silver curb-link watch chain.
Moilliet Rous a Geneve. A quarter repeating gold pair cased pocket watch, the white enamel dial having black Arabic numerals, shaped gold hands and signed 'Moilliet Rous', the chain fusee movement having a verge escapement with a plain three arm brass balance, a pierced and engraved backcock, a silvered regulation dial and signed 'Moilliet Rous a Geneve, 1256', repeating the hour and last quarter on a bell with two hammers, the cover similarly signed and numbered, having a plain inner case and tortoiseshell outer with pique work to the edges, diameter 55mm. * Moilliet Rous is recorded as working in Geneva, Switzerland in the mid to late 1700's.
John Cording, London. A silver pocket watch with detent escapement, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, gold spade hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and signed 'Jno. Cording, London, 432', the chain fusee movement having maintaining power, a spring detent escapement with a split bi-metallic balance, the finely engraved backcock having a diamond endstone, the backplate also signed by the maker, the case having engine turned decoration to the rear and hallmarked for silver, Birmingham 1814, diameter 52mm. * John Cording is recorded as working in the Strand, London from before 1819 until 1839.
J W Benson. A 9 carat gold pocket watch, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and signed 'J.W. Benson, London', the Swiss made movement having lever escapement and similarly signed, the open faced case hallmarked for 9 carat gold, Birmingham 1930 and stamped with the case maker's initial's 'A.L.D.' for Dennison, diameter 50mm. * J.W. Benson were in business from 1844 until 1973 and are recorded as working at 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill, London with a retail outlet at West End House, 25, Old Bond Street. An advert of theirs in the Illustrated London News of the 13th of December 1884 shows a printed view of their 'Steam Room' and 'Mezanine'. They traded as J.W. Benson from 1856 until 1891 and then as a limited company. For details of Dennison see Lot No. 328

A 15 carat gold pocket watch, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, gold spade hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and signed 'Samuel Edgcumbe, 11 Cornwall Street, Plymouth', the Swiss made movement having lever escapement and signed 'S.E', the open faced case stamped with an import mark for 15 carat gold, diameter 48mm. * Samuel Edgcumbe is recorded as a watch manufacturer at 11 Cornwall St, Plymouth from 1883 until after 1902.

A 14 carat gold pocket watch, the white enamel dial having Arabic hour numerals, red Arabic outer numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, blued steel spade hands and signed 'Inter State, Chronometer', the movement having a lever escapement with the engine turned backplate signed 'Inter-State, Chronometer, 2328662', the open faced case stamped inside 'Warranted 14K, to assay', diameter 42mm.

A 14 carat gold pocket watch, the white enamel dial having Arabic hour numerals, red Arabic outer numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, blued steel spade hands and signed 'Benedict Brothers', the movement having a lever escapement with the backplate signed 'Benedict Brothers, New York, Swiss made, 21212', the open faced case stamped inside 'Roy, 14K', diameter 44mm.

R. Salsbury, Guildford. An 18 carat gold pocket watch, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and signed 'R. Salsbury & Sons, Guildford', the movement having a lever escapement with a bimetallic balance, a fully engraved backcock and signed as the dial, the open faced case hallmarked for 18 carat gold, London 1886, diameter 48mm. * Robert Salsbury is recorded as working in Guildford from 1869 until 1878 becoming 'and Sons' after this date.
