A pair of Staffordshire equestrian figures of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, circa 1860, modelled on horseback, the Duke holding a feathered hat in his right hand, the Duchess riding side-saddle, polychrome enamel painted with gilded details, on naturalistic titled plinth bases, tallest 34cm high (2)
A pair of Staffordshire figures of the murderer 'James B Rush' and his mistress 'Emily Sandford', circa 1849, both modelled standing beside columns and holding speech scripts, polychrome enamel painted, on titled bases, 25.5 and 24.5cm high, together with models of 'Potash Farm', Rush’s residence, and 'Stanfield Hall', the place of the double murder, 22cm high, (4). Notes: the Murders at Stanfield Hall in Norfolk, perpetrated by James Bloomfield Rush in November of 1848, were the subject of much public attention, with the crime inspiring commemorations in the form of pottery, a life-size waxwork of Rush at Madame Tussauds, as well as a novel by Joseph Shearing, and the 1948 film 'Blanche Fury'. Rush was the tenant-farmer at Potash Farm near Wymondham, Norfolk, who plotted to kill and defraud his Landlord, Isaac Jermy, of his estate - he shot and killed Jermy and his son at the doorstep of Stanfield Hall on the 28th November, 1848, in an attempted disguise as the rival claimants of the estate. He failed to kill Mrs Jermy and a servant, who later identified him in court, with his mistress Emily Sanford refusing to support his fake alibi.
