A French marble and gilt metal mounted figural mantel clock on ebonised base with dome, the 8cm enamel dial having blue Roman chapter in a gilt metal drum supported on one side by a volute with a crest of a trophy of palm, wreath and codex, and supported on the other side by the seated figure of a poet in 17th century dress holding a pen and scroll, the 14-day movement striking on a bell, all on a rectangular white marble base supported on six feet, two end ones in the form of volutes, the remainder lion's paw, all centred by a mask, with pendulum and (later) key, clock 38 cm wide and 28.5cm high, the with base and dome over all height 45cm, c. 1870.
