A diamond and enamel Royal Norfolk Regimental brooch the seated figure of Britannia holding an olive branch and trident and resting one arm on a shield enamelled with the Union Jack set throughout with old cut diamonds with the Roman numerals IX similarly set beneath. . This infantry regiment was established in 1751 as the 9th Regiment of Foot and reorganised as the Norfolk Regiment in 1881. The regiment saw battle honours in Afghanistan (1879-80) South Africa (1900-02) and at the Marne Ypres and the Somme amongst others during World War One. The IX under Britannia might allude to the 9th Service Battalion of the regiment which was established at Norwich in 1914. In 1958 the regiment was amalgamated with the Suffolk Regiment to become the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Regiment

Racing interest a group of items belonging to jockey Herbert Robbins comprising; a portrait in racing silks an early 20th century gold silver and rose diamond round brooch enclosing a portrait miniature a gold-plated keyless pocket watch with monogram ‘HR’ and a silver and blue enamel cigarette case inscribed Herbert Robbins 18.12.12.’ London 1913 by The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co Ltd Provenance; by direct descent. Robbins was a well known jockey based in Lambourn. Though never in the ‘top flight’ he achieved much success between 1913 and 1922 including wins on Furore in the 1916 Irish Derby and the 1917 Cesarewitch on Double Hackle in the Ascot Stakes Northumberland Plate and Prince Edward Handicap in 1922. His most successful season was 1920 when he rode 29 winners. He died in 1927 aged 41.
