A Chinese Cloisonne Vase with Dragon Motif, Early 20th Century. h: 24 x w: 7 x d: 7 in. No Restoration A pinhead size area of missing enamel on bowl in blue ground by dragon`s tail. An 1/8th inch sized hairline crack to enamel in blue ground by dragon`s claw. Numerous tiny areas of missing enamel from the firing process. Two tiny hairline cracks to enamel in blue ground in bowl. These imperfections are too small to photograph except under extreme magnification.
AN ASSORTMENT OF BADGES OF THE ROYAL SCOTS AND RELATED UNITS mainly ORs` badges, as follows: a brass valise badge, probably pre-1855 (some damage to rays of star and a hole drilled through the face of St Andrew); three white metal helmet-plates of Volunteer battalions, one to the 2nd Midlothian & Peebles Rifle Volunteers 1886-88, one of the 5th VB Royal Scots, and another, of the 2nd Edinburgh RVC 1882-88; three Pipers` plaid-brooches, two with quoits 110mm diameter, mounted with a thistle wreath, crown and figure of St Andrew, the third possibly for Pipe Major, with quoit 90mm in diameter, bearing the Star of the Thistle in cast white metal, mounted with a gilt Thistle centre on green enamel (11)
OFFICERS` SHOULDERBELT-PLATES AND OTHER ITEMS a shoulderbelt-plate of the Royal Scots 1903-31, with burnished gilt-plate mounted with the Thistle Star above a white metal scroll inscribed THE ROYAL SCOTS (gilt of backing plate rubbed); a similar plate, post 1931, with Thistle Star of modern style; a Territorial Force battalion officer`s white metal plate post-1908, by Marshall Aitken, Edinburgh, the Thistle Star in cut white metal with gilt centre on green enamel, the regimental title scroll also in gilt (minimal damage to the enamel); a white metal pouchbelt-plate of the Haddingtonshire Rifle Volunteers c.1863 - 1903; a shoulderbelt-plate of c.1829 - 44 pattern with cut silver star and thirteen gilt rays bearing battle honours as Parkyn Fig 75 (gilt rubbed, centre of Star missing); and a mount for a shoulderbelt-plate (possibly spurious) of the 5th Battalion post 1922, in the form of a rayed Thistle Star of Gordon Highlanders style in white metal, mounted with a gilt central circle with a thistle on red enamel ground, surmounted by a Crown and with a stringed bugle horn in gilt below (6)
OFFICERS` HEADDRESS BADGES OF THE ROYAL SCOTS a forage cap badge c.1871 for an officer of the 1st Battalion, Thistle Star in white metal, gilt oval centre in the form of St Andrew and the Collar of the Order of the Thistle on a blue enamel ground, surrounded by a scroll inscribed with the motto and THE ROYAL REGIMENT (enamel slightly cracked and chipped); a similar badge, but the enamel of the centre replaced (the reverse now fitted with a pin fitting, the pin-loop missing); and a badge for Colonial helmet worn by the 2nd Battalion in India 1890 - 1902 (the enamel centre now replaced by red cloth backing, one lug clumsily replaced with solder) (3)

AN OFFICER`S SHOULDERBELT-PLATE OF THE 1ST FOOT an exceptionally fine example of the pattern worn from 1844 to 1855 (see Parkyn p.70), frosted gilt plate with burnished edges, mounted with the Star of the Thistle in white metal on a burnished slip, the centre bearing St Andrew in gilt on a blue enamel ground and title THE ROYAL REGIMENT, complete with original leather backing (slight chipping to blue enamel)
