Third Reich Transitional SS (Schutzstaffel) Dress Dagger by J A Henckels, Solingen, good example of a transitional pattern RZM dress dagger with grip having aluminium eagle and enamel SS runes. Typical RZM plated fittings to the grip mounts and the scabbard mounts. Double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’, reverse with J A Henckels trademark and RZM ‘15/38’ and SS runes. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37 ½ cms. Some wear to the exterior fittings which is typical of RZM pieces. The transitional SS daggers are much harder to find than those of the SA.
Third Reich Erased Rohm Inscription SA (Sturmabteilung) Dagger by EP&S with Replaced Dedication to Reverse, good example with brown wooden grip, nickel silver eagle and enamel SA emblem. Nickel plated mounts with the lower mount being stamped ‘Wf’. Housed in the original anodised scabbard, lower scabbard mount ball heavily dented and cracked. Double edged blade with ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ motto. Reverse of the blade has the makers trademark and is etched with motto ‘Die Treue ist das Mart der Ehre’, the motto has been placed over the top of where a Ernst Rohm dedication had been officially removed. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37cms. Blade with some surface pitting, wear to the grip and scratches to the scabbard centre.
Third Reich SS (Schutzstaffel) Dress Dagger RZM 807/36, good example with stained black grip with original eagle and enamel SS runes. RZM plated mounts. Complete with its original scabbard. Double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’ and the reverse with RZM logo ‘807/36’ and SS runes in circle. The blade measures 22cms, overall 38cms. Dent to the underside of the cross guard, some surface rusting to the exterior.
Rare Third Reich SA (Sturmabteilung) Dagger with Full Ernst Röhm Dedication by C Linder, Solingen Merscheid, untouched as found example of an early pattern SA dress dagger with dark brown grip having the original eagle and enamel SA devices. Lower cross guard stamped with gau mark ‘Wf’. Housed in its original scabbard with patterned finish to the centre. Fitted with a leather single hanging strap and a larger central leather strap with two ‘D’ ring fittings. Lower scabbard chape dented. Double edged blade with standard motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’. The reverse of the blade has the makers trademark and a well worn full Ernst Röhm dedication. Some wear to the inscription but this is consistent with the overall condition of the dagger and not a attempt to erase the dedication. The blade measures 22cms, overall 36 ½ cms. Overall a good untouched example of a rarely encountered maker for a Ernst Röhm dedicated dagger. The Ernst Röhm inscription daggers were produced and issued in 1934 to SA and SS members who joined before 31st December 1931 and had continued to serve throughout this period. The inscription translates to ‘In heartfelt comradeship Ernst Röhm’. When Röhm was removed from power and eventually killed, the order was given for these inscriptions to be removed and many members destroyed the blades by grinding the dedication off. Original examples do surface with partial erasure with his name removed, but very few survived with the full dedication intact.
Rare Third Reich SS (Schutzstaffel) Heinrich Himmler Dedication Dress Dagger by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, good untouched example of the rare SS Himmler honour dagger, being a text book early pattern dress dagger with the ebony grip having eagle and enamel SS emblem. The lower guard is stamped with the control workplace number ‘0’. Housed in the original early anodised scabbard which is fitted with a black leather vertical dagger hanger and long belt loop strap. Double edged blade with standard motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’ and the reverse with the early small oval Carl Eickhorn trademark. The reverse of the blade has the full Heinrich Himmler honour dedication ‘In herzlicher Kameradschaft Heinrich Himmler’ (In heartfelt comradeship Heinrich Himmler). The blade shows some wear and has some surface staining. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37 ½ cms. Generally a good untouched as found example of a very rare and desirable SS mans dress dagger. The Himmler inscription daggers were instituted in 1934 and were originally designated to commemorate members of the SS who took part in the Night of the Long Knives, where SA leader Ernst Röhm and 14 other high ranking SA officials were removed from power. Although originally an order was placed with the firm, Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, who is the only maker of this type of dagger, it is estimated that about 2,500 were produced. It is believed that these daggers were also issued to SS members who showed high loyalty to Heinrich Himmler.
Rare Third Reich SS (Schutzstaffel) Dress Dagger by Ed Gembruch, Solingen, superb near mint condition example of a model 33 enlisted mans dress dagger with the grip having its original eagle and enamel SS runes inserted. The lower cross guard is stamped with district mark ‘I’. Housed in the original matching scabbard with near perfect bottom ball mount, just some light scratches to the finish. The dagger has a near mint condition double edged blade with much of the original cross graining still present. Blade with standard motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’ and the reverse has the rare makers trademark of a fish for Ed Gembruch, Solingen. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37cms. Overall this is a superb example of an SS mans dress dagger by one of the rarest and hardest makers to find.
Third Reich NSFK Flyers Knife Dagger by F&A Helbig, good example with aluminium fittings and blue leather covering to the grip and scabbard. Black enamel to the central swastikas. One screw missing from the top scabbard and lower scabbard fittings, lower fitting also with a small crack to the edge. Scabbard throat stamped with the NSFK emblem. Double edged blade with makers trademark to the reverse. Some staining to the blade. The blade measures 17 ½ cms, overall 35 ½ cms.
Third Reich NSKK Dress Dagger Attributed to SS-Obergruppenführer Hermann Höfle, Who Played a Vital Role in Suppressing the Slovak National Uprising, Later Being Trialled and Sentenced to Death for War Crimes, this dagger being an enlisted mans type with a light brown wood grip, having nickel plated eagle and enamel SA device. Both the upper and lower cross guard mounts have been beautifully hand chassed with an leaf pattern. The dagger is housed in its original scabbard, where once again the mounts have been hand chased. The reverse of the top scabbard mount is engraved in gothic lettering, ‘Hermann Höfle nskk-mün. 17.aug.1934’. Standard blade with motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ and the reverse with the makers trademark for J P Sauer & Sohn, Sühl. The blade shows some wear with staining and oil marks. The blade 21 ¾ cms, overall 38cms. Hermann Höfle was born on 12th September 1898. The son of a postal official, he enlisted in the Bavarian army in 1916, serving with Infantry regiment Nr8. He transferred to the Imperial German Air Service later in the war, where he served as an Observer. After WW1, Höfle served in the Freikorps and later with Ernst Rohm, was present at the Beer Hall Putsch. He officially joined the SA (Sturmabteilung) in the 1930’s. From 1934-1937, he was part of the NSKK in Munich, rising through the ranks of the NSKK through to 1943. At the request of Heinrich Himmler, Höfle left the NSKK and joined the SS (Schutzstaffel) where he became a SS-Obergruppenführer in an administration role. He was serving in Slovakia and was a pivotal player in the suppression of the Slovak National Uprising in 1944. He was arrested by the Czechoslovakian authorities after the war and was put on trial along with Hanns Ludin and both were sentenced to death and executed on 9th December 1947, it is believed however that he may have died in custody earlier than this date.
Third Reich Transitional SA (Sturmabteilung) Dress Dagger by Klitermann & Moog, Haan Solingen, later type transitional RZM period SA dagger with wooden grip, nickel eagle and enamel SA device. Plated mounts, reverse of the lower cross guard stamped ‘Ns’. Housed in its original scabbard, centre being refinished in a light brown paint. Attached to the scabbard is an original brown leather SA vertical dagger hanger. Double edged blade with the motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ and makers trademark and RZM logo with ‘M 7/29 – 1939’. Blade is in generally good condition. Blade 22cms, overall 37 ½ cms.
Rare Third Reich SA / NSKK Dagger with ‘Christmas’ Pattern Motto to Blade by Ernst Pack & Söhne, Solingen, fine and extremely rare example of the first ever issue of the SA dress dagger with the brown wooden grip having the 1st pattern 1927 pattern eagle and enamel SA device. The grip fittings have a nicotine patina. Housed in its matching scabbard with black finish to the centre, which would indicate that the scabbard was replaced when the regulation for NSKK members to have the black scabbard after 19th May 1936, where members could either paint their scabbard or exchange, the scabbard fittings match the grip fittings indicating this has been together since WW2. The double edged blade has the early motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ and the reverse has the makers trademark. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37 ½ cms. Untouched as found example, lower ball mount on the scabbard is cracked. On the 15th December 1933, the SA Headquarters officially decided to institute a dagger to be worn with the SA uniform. On Christmas 1933 the first grouping of SA daggers were delivered to the higher SA leaders. These daggers are referred to as ‘Weihnachtsdolch’ (Christmas Dagger) and they have different design mottos to the later examples. This is the first type of these with the early pattern eagle, later examples can be found with the standard / later type eagle, see the following lot for an example of this. This dagger is a must have for any collector of SA daggers and rarer to find than an honour dagger.

Reverse of the cross guard with ‘I’ district stamp. Housed in its scabbard with a three piece leather hanging strap. Near mint condition blade which retains much of the cross grain finish. This maker along with examples by Jacobs have the special pattern motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue!’. Makers trademark to the reverse of the blade. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37cms. Good patina to the exterior fittings of the dagger.

Anodised scabbard with patina to the fittings. Double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’, the reverse with makers trademark. Small nick to the edge of the blade. The blade measures 21 ½ cms, overall 37cms. Generally good example.
Rare Third Reich SS (Schutzstaffel) Dress Dagger with Full Ernst Röhm Dedication by Rich Abr Herder, Solingen, good example of an enlisted mans dress dagger with ebony grip, nickel silver eagle and enamel SS runes emblem (some enamel loss). The lower cross guard mount is stamped with district mark ‘III’ and SS membership number ‘1190’. Housed in the original scabbard with a black leather SS vertical hanger attached. The scabbard throat is also stamped with the SS service number ‘1190’. Very good condition double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’ and the reverse with the makers trademark and the extremely rare full length Ernst Röhm dedication, ‘In herzlicher Kameradschaft Ernst Röhm’ (In heartfelt comradeship Ernst Röhm). The blade measures 22cms, overall 38cms. The exterior shows some wear but the blade is generally good condition and the inscription is fully visible. The honour dagger of Ernst Röhm was instituted in 1934 and was issued to SS members who had served before December 1931 and had continued service until this date. After the night of the long knives an order was given to remove this dedication from the blade so to find complete examples are extremely rare. It is believed that only 9,900 Röhm dedications were produced on SS daggers compared to 125,960 SA daggers.

Lower cross guard is stamped with gau / district mark ‘Mi’. Housed in the original anodised scabbard with a single hanging strap attached. The scabbard throat is engraved with unit mark ‘14/2952’. Excellent condition double edged blade with 90% of the blackened finish to the motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’, reverse has the makers trademark. Blade 22cms, overall 37cms. Small dent to the lower ball on scabbard mount.
Third Reich DLV / NSFK Flyers Knife Dagger by SMF, Solingen, good example with nickel silver fittings, retaining the blue leather covering to the grip and to the scabbard. Black enamel to the centre swastikas on the cross guard. The ends of the cross guard are stamped with a ‘K’ and a another stamp which is not clear. Attached to the scabbard is the short brown leather hanging strap, metal clip spring gone. Scabbard throat is stamped with the acceptance stamps for both the DLV and NSFK. Double edged blade with makers trademark to the reverse. Some wear to the blade but generally a good example. Blade 17 ½ cms, overall 33 ½ cms.

Blade with motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’, reverse with makers trademark and a engraved four line dedication ‘SA-OBERGRUPPENFÜHRER HERZOG IN HERZLICHER ALTER KÄMPFER KAMERADSCHAFT 30-10-1936 ADOLF KOL SA – GRUPPE MITTE’. The blade shows wear and has pitting. The blade measures 22 ¼ cms, overall 37cms. Dents to the scabbard and the lower ball mount on the scabbard.

Double edged blade with motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ and makers trademark to the base of the reverse. Neatly engraved to the reverse of the blade is the name of the original owner, ‘Georg Reigs’. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37cms.

Nickel silver top and lower mount fittings, reverse of the lower mount stamped with gau district mark ‘S’. The top screw nut is in the form of an early mobile type swastika. Housed in its original scabbard with the top and lower scabbard mounts being beautifully hand engraved with oakleaves. Attached to the scabbard ring is a single leather hanging strap. Plain double edged blade with motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ to the centre. The motto retains much of the blackened finish. Reverse of the blade has makers trademark for ‘F DICK’. The blade 22cms, overall 37cms. Screw missing from the top scabbard mount and one from the lower chape. Some denting to the lower ball.

Lower cross guard mount stamped with original owners membership number ‘19676’. Housed in early anodised scabbard with the lower scabbard mount showing heavy wear and denting to the ball tip. Double edged blade with the remains of the blackened finish to the standard motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’. Makers trademark to the reverse of the blade. The blade shows some staining and wear. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37cms. It is believed that this maker only produced about 1,000 SA dress daggers and is rated as a 10 on rarity scale (the highest number achievable)

Standard double edged blade with motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ and makers trademark to the reverse. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37cms. Some wear to the light gilt wash to the fittings and dents / crack to the ball on the lower scabbard mount. Still a good example of a hard to find dagger.

The double edged blade has the motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ and the reverse has the makers oval trademark to the base close to the cross guard fitting. The reverse of the blade also has the full length Ernst Röhm dedication. The blade has some surface pitting and a small indent to the edge towards the top of the blade. This dagger is said to be the actual example shown in the reference work produced by well known UK collector Frederick J Stephens. The Ernst Röhm inscription daggers were produced and issued in 1934 to SA and SS members who joined before 31st December 1931 and had continued to serve throughout this period. The inscription translates to ‘In heartfelt comradeship Ernst Röhm’. Plated top pommel and cross guard with acorn finials. Clamshell guard with enamel Deutscher Schützen-Verband emblem to the centre. Housed in its original leather and plated mounts scabbard. Fine single edged blade etched with hunting scenes, shooting mementos, etc. Blade with makers trademark to the base. The blade measures 39 ¾ cms, overall 54 ¾ cms. Fittings with some pitting / corrosion. Leather scabbard damaged and shrunk making it not fit into the scabbard correctly.

The blade remains in very good overall condition, the exterior shows wear.

The scabbard with type 2 chains has some light wear. SS acceptance stamp to the reverse of the chains. Attached to the grip is an original but worn officers dress portepee / knot. Some light denting to the bottom chape. Double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’ and the reverse has a two line engraved dedication, ‘In Kameradschaft Stab R.3 u Führer d Stürme’. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37cms. Some wear to the blade and exterior fittings but generally a good untouched example with an original engraved dedication to the blade.
Rare Third Reich NSKK Marine Officers Chained Dress Dagger, super and rare example of a later type NSKK marine leaders (NSKK-Kraftbooteinheiten) dress dagger. Brown wooden grip with aluminium eagle and enamel SA device emblem to the grip. Exterior fittings and scabbard fittings with the later high copper content finish which gives the fittings a copper effect finish. Full length hanging chains with working clip fitting. Reverse of the chains are stamped with ‘MUSTERSCHUTZ NSKK-KORPSFUHRUNG’ and RZM M5/8. The blade is a standard type with motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’. No makers trademark to the reverse. The blade has some staining and scuffs from the scabbard runners. The blade 22cms, overall 38cms. Some light scuffs to the scabbard and general patina to the exterior of the dagger but still a good example of a very rare dress dagger.

Nickel top and lower mounts with the reverse of the lower mount being stamped with district mark ‘Wn’. Housed in the original blackened scabbard with single short black leather hanging strap. The blade is double edged and with standard motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’. Reverse of the blade has the makers trademark logo of the two stag heads and a fine lightly engraved dedication ‘Für treue Kameradschaft Götz, Sturmhauptführer 1.1.37’. The blade 22 ¼ cms, overall 37 ½ cms. Much of the blackening to the motto remains, some scuffs to the scabbard finish but generally a very good example.

The lower cross guard is not district stamped which is typical of daggers by this RZM manufacturer. Double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’ and reverse with RZM logo SS runes and ‘121/34’ between. The blade 22cms, overall 37cms. Some crazing to the finish on the scabbard and evidence of a vertical hanger once being present.
Rare Unit Marked 1st Pattern SA (Sturmabteilung) Marine Dagger by Malsch & Ambronn, Steinbach, being a good example with much of the original blackened finish to the grip, original eagle and enamel SA device. The lower cross guard and the top scabbard mount are stamped ‘Mar. Br. 4 E. SCHULZ 9099’. Blackened anodised scabbard which has an original three piece leather hanger. Good condition double edged blade with the motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’ which retains much of the original blackened finish. Makers trademark to the reverse of the blade. Some light pitting but generally a good condition blade. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37cms. Overall this is a very good example of a rare and desirable 1st pattern marine SA dagger, the later patterns having the gilded fittings. On Christmas 1933 the first grouping of SA daggers were delivered to the higher SA leaders. These daggers are referred to as ‘Weihnachtsdolch’ (Christmas Dagger) and they have different design mottos to the later examples. This particular example is a transitional pattern with standard SA fittings. See previous lot for a earlier example with the 1927 pattern eagle
Third Reich Transitional SS (Schutzstaffel) Dress Dagger by Robert Klaas, Solingen, good example of a transitional pattern RZM dress dagger with grip having aluminium eagle and enamel SS runes. Typical RZM plated fittings to the grip mounts and the scabbard mounts. Double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’, reverse with Robert Klass trademark and RZM ‘M7/37 RZM 1051/39’ and SS runes. Couple of nicks to the edge of the blade. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37 cms. Some wear to the exterior fittings which is typical of RZM pieces. The transitional SS daggers are much harder to find than those of the SA.

(3)Footnotes:Kate Eadie was a student at the Birmingham School of Art, where she met the painter Sidney Meteyard. Kate sat as model for a number of Meteyard's works, and the two collaborated on stained glass designs. Eadie worked in many media: as an enameller, a jeweller and manuscript illuminator, embracing the Arts and Crafts style. She was the first female member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, becoming an associate in 1915. Late in life, she married Meteyard.Eadie exhibited seven works, mostly enamel panels, at the Royal Academy Summer Show between 1905 and 1915. There is a three-panelled firescreen by Eadie, depicting the Fates, in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
