A Sevrès-style porcelain box and a Continental gilt-metal mounted enamel box: the first of cartouche form decorated with lovers in a garden setting reserved on a gilded dark blue ground, crossed arrows mark, 10 x 9 cm; the second painted with a harbour scene and vignettes of buildings and ruins, probably German, late 18th century, 7.5 x 6 cm [2].
A pair of George III Bilston enamel candlesticks and sconces: each with knopped stem and domed foot, painted with floral sprays and raised gilt foliage within cobalt blue cartouches, gilt-metal mounts, circa 1770, 28 cm [minor damages, one with repair to stem and sconce].* Provenance: paper labels for the Rous Lench Collection no.630. Henri Jacot, Paris, a five-minute repeating carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours on a gong, the half-hours on a smaller gong and repeating the last five-minutes at will via the repeat button to the top by sounding the last hour on the large gong and the last five minute segment on the smaller gong, the backplate stamped with the trademark for Henri Jacot, the initials H.J. either side of a parrot on a perch along with the serial number 6309, with the inside of the plates stamped with the blanc roulant number 5425, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals and blued steel spade hands, the brass corniche case with typical three-bail handle, the top engraved with a presentation dated 1888, height 18cms handle up, 15cms handle down.* Biography Henri Jacot, born 1796 in Le Locle, Switzerland, founded the Jacot carriage clock making business in Paris in 1822 at rue Montmorency 25, later re-numbered 31, and was succeeded after his death in 1878 by his nephew Albert Jacot, born 1846, with the help of his father, and Henri's brother, Julien Jacot. They had workshops in the centre of the clockmaking town of Saint Nicolas d'Aliermont, near Dieppe, beside a magnificent house in which lived their business partner Louis Baveux and his son Alfred Baveux.* Note Reference Leigh Extence, Henri Jacot an Exhibition of Carriage Clocks, catalogue 2013.
Richard et Cie, Paris, a French Victorian carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, the backplate stamped with the trademark for the maker Richard et Cie along with the serial number 180, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals and blued steel hands, the brass corniche case having a three-bail handle, engraved with a presentation dated June 1888, height 17.5cms handle up, 14.5cms handle down.* Biography Richard et Cie of Rue de Bondy 32, Paris, were one of the most well-known makers and retailers of clocks, with a showroom in Cannon Street, London.
F. Moreau, France, A gilt-metal figural mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the backplate stamped with the serial number 33534, the convex white enamel dial having black Arabic hour numerals with coloured swags of flowers between, with decorative gilt-brass hands, the gilt-metal case stamped with the founders name F. Moreau, France, and depicting a country maiden leaning against a rock feeding chickens, standing on a pink variegated marble base with a gilt-metal mount to the front and standing on matching feet, height 42cms.* Biography Hippolyte-François Moreau, 1832-1927, was the son of Auguste Moreau who was born in Dijon, who in turn was the son of renowned sculpteur Jean-Baptiste Moreau. The family were prolific in both bronze and spelter with Hippolyte-Francois mainly producing allogories often depicting women in classical and flowing dress, and often working alongside his brother Louis Auguste Moreau.
An onyx and enamel French mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a gong, the cream enamel dial having black Arabic hour numerals with coloured swags of flowers between and decorative fleur-de-lys gilt brass hands, the onyx 'four-glass' case with bevelled glass to all sides and surmounted by an onyx pagoda, with champlevé enamelled decoration to the top and bottom mouldings and top of the pagoda, the pendulum having sunburst applied decoration, height 33.5cms.
Japy Frères, Paris, a French champlevé enamel four-glass mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a gong and stamped with the trademark of the maker Japy Frères & Co and numbered 12522, the gilded brass dial having black Roman hour numerals within oval roundels and champlevé enamelled decoration to the centre and bezel, signed to the chapter ring for the retailer J. Ullman & Co, Hong Kong, Shanghai & Tien-Tien, with decorative blued-steel hands, the brass 'four-glass' case with bevelled glass to all sides the corner pillars having cast Corinthian capitals and decorated with champlevé enamel, the top and lower mouldings with further champlevé enamelled decoration, with an engraved presentation to the case front Presented by the Captain of H.M.S. Hawkins to M.A.A. Abbott on Ship Paying off 21-4-21, the pendulum having a large brass bob, height 41cms.*Note H.M.S. Hawkins, one of four Hawkins class destroyers commissioned after the First World War being laid down in Chatham Dockyard on the 3rd of June 1916 and launched on the 1st of October 1917. She was commissioned to the China Station departing Chatham in July 1919 and returning in 1921 under Captain Reginald G.H. Henderson who was to become Rear-Admiral, Vice-Admiral and finally Admiral before his death in 1939, the dating of this journey coinciding with the presentation as engraved on the case of this clock, along with the purchase from a Hong Kong retailer. A black lacquered album of over 600 prints depicting the ship's journey at this time is in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich and depicts not only life on board but places visited including Hong Kong. Ref: NMM, HMS Hawkins (1917), China Station, 1919-1921 (Photograph album) (ALB0323)* Biography Japy frères were founded by Frederic Japy of Beaucount, born 1749, who first made movements for the clock industry at his factory in 1777, becoming the largest and most commercially important clockmaking concern in France. The business continued after his death.
A gilt-metal and porcelain mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, the round white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals and blued steel spade hands, the tapered gilt-metal case having applied scroll mouldings with engraved decoration inset porcelain panels and tapered decorative porcelain pillars to the sides, all surmounted with a porcelain urn, the rear of the case stamped for the casemaker Mourey of Paris along with the numbers 12 and 69, depicting a date of manufacture of December 1869, and serial number 6110, height 39cms.

A George III Bilston enamel etui, tapering ovoid form, one side decorated with fishermen, the reverse with a church, on a dark blue ground, lacking fittings, length 10.2cm, plus a French silver-mounted enamel box, of oval form, the hinged cover and sides decorated with flowers and set with a silver bird, length 6cm, plus another enamel box of rectangular form, decorated with a figural scene with a church in the background, length 5.4cm.
