World War I, Royal Red Cross, George V, silver and enamel Badge, 2nd Class, with bow ribbon, in Garrard, London case of issue; together with Queen Alexandra's Imperial Nursing Service Reserve, openwork silver badge, named on reverse "Gladys Mursell Burroughs, April 17th 1915". Good very fine. (2) Gladys Burroughs, by then a Matron, was amongst "The ladies (who) had the honoiur of being received by the King at Buckingham Palace on Saturday last [May 4th 1918], when his Majesty decorated them with the Royal Red Cross".

The Royal Society of St. George, Past President's Jewel, Shanghai Branch, silver-gilt and enamel, St. George slays dragon within border of red and white roses, rosette on ribbon, maker RS (Spencer), Birmingham Hallmark 1933, in case of issue. Good very fine. The Royal Society of St. George, in its present form, was founded in 1894 as a patriotic society with the object of promoting "Englishness" and the English way of life.
World War I, a pair of medals to a "Fany", the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry Corps, War and Victory Medals (M. MULLINER. F.A.N.Y.C.), three "Women's Transport service - F.A.N.Y" buttons; and with a gold and enamel brooch of Queen Victoria's Own Corps of Guides, a crowned VR monogram and Garter, with legend around, 22 x 16mm, in black leather case. Medals and brooch about extremely fine. (6) The Corps of Guides, formed in 1846, was an Indian Army regiment with a reputation for excellence, innovation, individual initiative, endurance, daring and toughness in battle, By 1914 it was named Queen Victoria's Own Corps of Guides (Frontier Force) (Lumsden's) Cavalry. The cataloguers are unable to link the brooch to the medals.
An interesting display of the Crimea period medals and insignia of Colour Sergeant George Walden, Coldstream Guards comprising: group of four - Crimea 1854-56, 4 clasps Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (officially impressed Clr. Srjt G. Walden 1st Batn. Coldstrm Gds); Army Long Service and Good Conduct medal (impressed 3090 Color (sic) Serjt Geoe Walden Coldsm Guards); French Military War medal (Medaille Militaire), Crimea type with eagle suspender; Turkish Crimea medal, Sardinian issue (impressed ‘3090 Cm Gds'). Each medal bearing top ribbon brooch suspender, the French award wtih that of an eagle, similar to suspender, superimposed on a bar of laurels. The medals average Near Very Fine to Good Very Fine, (the French award with approximately 50% of blue enamel missing). Displayed with the following: red feather plume, two musketry proficiency sleeve badges; 2 Colour Sergeant's arm badges; a bullion embroidered rank crown in each corner, (the embroidered items some wear). Sold with 4 pages of National Archive (PRO) photocopies of recipient's service papers, copy death certificate (original dated 1885) and extract pages from "The London Illustrated News" for June 20th and July 11th 1857 listing recipients of the Victoria Cross, the French Legion of Honour and the Military War medal, generally good condition (edges AF and tape repaired). A nice lot. Plate 2 Note: Colour Sergeant George Walden attested for the Coldstream Guards at Taunton on 30th August 1845 and was discharged at his own request on 5th October 1866 following 21 years service. He was present at the Battles of the Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann (where he was wounded in the face) and served in the trenches during the Siege of Sebastopol with the exception of a short absence until the recovery of his wound. His French award was for Crimea service.
Fine quality George IV gold and enamel memorial locket with finely enamelled coat of arms of John George Griffies-Williams (1794-1835) and black floral scrollwork made to commemorate his son George (1818-1833) containing a fine miniature on ivory portrait of him and lock of his hair and memorial inscription, 3.8cm diameter
RAF - A GROUP OF RAF BADGES & INSIGNIA including Pilot's "Wings" embroidered tunic badge; an embroidered XXVIII AC Squadron badge; Kings Crown Cap-badge with gilt eagle and embroidered gold threadwork; a gold-thread embroidered blazer badge, and WWII 1939-45 General Service medal on ribbon in original box; a gilt yellow metal RAF sweetheart's brooch; also with a white metal enamelled Air Training Corps medallion; a Combined Cadet Force enamel lapel badge and another enamel lapel-badge inscribed RAA Kobenhavn 1957; and an RAF eagle motif lapel badge by JR Gaunt on original card, hand-annotated "Pathfinder". A Fine Quality Gilt Bronze Empire Clock Circa 1810. The painted enamel dial bordering a pierced wheel of wheat revealing the movement, striking a bell. Set within a harvesting plough being drawn by two bulls and reigned by the Goddess of Agriculture; Ceres. The long rectangular base having canted corners embellished with cartouches of agricultural tools and wheat sheaves. Standing on blade knop feet. 16½ ins (42 cms) in height, 17½ ins x 5¼ ins (45 cms x 13.5 cms).
An Exquisite Gilt Bronze Empire Mantel Clock. The round enamel dial having an eight day movement and decorative gilt brass hands, signed 'Robins, à Paris'. The fine fretted relief cast pediment having two winged figures seated at the top pouring wine from vessels into cups held aloft by semi clad nymphs flanking the clock face. Beneath the Goddess Nike with feathery wings and windswept skirts holding flaming torches in her outswept arms. Standing 20 ins (51 cms) high on hairy lion paw feet above a white marble plinth base measuring 11½ ins x 4¾ ins (29 cms x 12 cms).
