A Lalique berries pattern glass pendant, the pierced blue glass triangular form moulded with scrolling berries and foliage, unmarked Other Notes: René Lalique was Art Nouveau's most important jewellery designer. He developed in own unique style using non-precious metal such as enamel, glass and horn. Often inspired by the Symbolist art movement, Lalique's designs drew on many subjects including landscapes, insects and the mythogical nymph as seen in this pendant. In the 1890s Lalique began to study in detail the qualities of glass, buying his own glassworks in 1910. From this date he worked almost entirely with glass, abandoning the use of precious metals entirely. He started making press glass pendants after 1910; the invitation to his first all-glass display in his show room in Place Vendôme in 1912 was a dark green, pressed-glass medallion. Medallions were also produced by his company for the fragrance company Fioret for their Chose Promise perfume.
