Le Roy, Paris, a French porcelain lyre clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, the backplate stamped with the serial number 25462, the round white enamel dial having black Arabic hour numerals with coloured floral swags between, gilt brass lyre-shaped hands and signed Le Roy, 59 New Bond Street, London, Made in France with the paste-set 'pendulum' circle set around the dial with a brass and steel pendulum rod, the blue porcelain lyre shaped case with gilt-brass decorative floral mounts, an ormolu sunburst to the top and standing on gilt bun feet, height 34cm. *Provenance Rockbeare Manor, Exeter, Devon.
Levy Frères à Paris, a gilt and porcelain mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on bell with an outside countwheel, the backplate stamped with the trademark and serial number for the maker Levy Frères à Paris, 622, along with the retailer's mark, the initials AD within an oval, the round white enamel dial with blue Roman numerals, decorative gilt-brass hands and signed for the maker Levy Frères à Paris, the decorative gilt-metal case with curved ends, various floral gilt-metal mounts and inset with porcelain panels to the front and sides, the one to the front depicting a couple in a field, with two further oval panels to either side, that to the left depicting a peasant girl holding a wicker basket, that to the right depicting a lady of substance holding a bag, the case surmounted by a cast bird holding a wreath, height 30cm. * Biography Levy Frères are recorded as working in Paris at Fg St-Antoine in the mid-1800s before being succeeded by Lescure in 1914. In 1867 it is known that they patented a key lock.
Gaston Jolly Fils à Paris, a brass portico clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, with the nine-rod brass pendulum, the round white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, blued steel moon hands and signed Gaston Jolly Fils à Paris, the gilded case having four columns adorned with a helter-skelter of mythical figures in the manner of Trajans' column, with further decorative mouldings to the base and standing on matching bun feet, height 45cm. * Biography Gaston Jolly Fils were founded by Francois-Pierre Gaston who married in 1784, becoming Gaston Jolly prior to 1806 when first recorded at Rue de Pavé-Saint-Sauveur, moving to Boulevard Poissonière in circa 1815 and still there in 1850, by 1870 their address is recorded as Rue de la Chapelle.
