A good 19th century memorial locket, the centre with gilt monogram "JB" in gilt metal and enamel borders and inscribed "J.D. Bloomar. Obt. Apr. 18th 1848 Agd60", the reverse with monogram against blue enamel in a seed pearl frame, flanked by gilt filigree and hair trees all against an opalescent glass background, with suspension loop. 7.2 cm (excluding loop) x 6 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The locket itself is in good structural order with no significant damage to either the outer casing or the glass. The enamel is in good condition all round and there are no significant dents or scratches to the metalwork. Unfortunately, there is some deterioration of the gilt filigree. Pieces have become detached and are floating round under the glass. This should be evident from our images. The hair sections appear to be in good order. Two of the left hand seed pearls at the narrow part of the hair are detached. As stated, there are numerous small breaks to the filigree. There is some deterioration to the small seed pearls which form part of the letter G. There is one small seed pearl missing from the surround. On the opposite side the initialled centre to the circular enamelled section is detached and slipped. As far as we can tell the opal panel is in good condition.
A diamond set crescent shape brooch, 20th century, the crescent entwined by a green enamel snake biting a seed pearl, on white and yellow metal mount. Length 4.77 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: We have looked at the brooch under a x 10 loupe. There are two sections of enamel on the snake which appear to have been repaired. These are slightly yellow to look at and one is beneath the head of the snake and one at the base of the first curl of the snake's body just below the crescent. They appear to be professional repairs. Other than this the piece is in extremely good order. Weight 7.8 grams. In our opinion the diamonds are not of particularly good colour or clarity. They are a little dull. They are not particularly uniformly cut either. It is difficult to estimate the total carat weight of the diamonds. There are 18 small diamonds which are graduating. The largest is +/- 2 mm across the top and the smallest less than 1 mm. Perhaps this will help.We have looked at the brooch under a x 10 loupe.
