A Victorian birds eye maple cabinet by William Watt in the Aesthetic manner of Edward William Godwin, having a moulded and scratch carved cornice, centre upper carved doors, enclosing fitted press drawers over a two drawer and two door cupboard base, enclosed by a quarter rounded arrangements of gallery cupboard and shelving, on turned legs and bearing the enamel plaque verso of William Watt of London, 153 cm high and 190 cm wide. Provenance: Bought from the sale of contents of Caythorpe Hall and remaining in the same family until present.
A silver bell form pincushion, a silver pincushion/ring stand, and a button hook, the bell of pierced form with triangular mount, Birmingham, Levi & Solomon, 7cm high, the circular ring stand with pincushion to centre below six ring hooks, Chester, dented, 6cm high, the button hook with pink enamel handle, Chester, 1947, 25cm. Four thimbles, comprising; a silver example for the Coronation of Elizabeth II, the frieze with crown and “E.R.”, a white metal thimble with floral enamel frieze and stone top, another enamelled in the Delft style with windmill in landscape, and a silver thimble with agate top. Eight thimbles relating to British Royalty, comprising; a white metal thimble inscribed to frieze “Coronation 1837 – Victoria – Commemoration 1897”, 2.2cm, a silver example for the 1981 Royal Wedding, another in silver and enamel, another in silver and enamel for the Silver Jubilee 1977, another in silver only, a pair of Wedgwood jasper ware thimbles for 1981 Royal Wedding, and a thimble with peep for the Golden Jubilee 2002. A fine early 19th century Palais Royal gilt metal and floral paper mounted sewing basket of oval form, the floral decorated oval foot below inset teardrop mother-of-pearl panels within a wirework frame below a pierced and decorated swing handle, the interior with twenty glazed tear drop panels (two cracked), each with a bouquet of paper flowers, the centre of the basket with a bouquet of paper flowers below an oval domed glass, in gilt metal frame and lifting out to reveal a full complement of Palais Royal mother-of-pearl tools, comprising; a needlecase with anthemion carved ends and gilt oval and enamel pansy motif, a bodkin, a thimble with pansy motif, a pair of scissors the arms carved with mythical beasts and fitting over a circular mirror aperture with silk winder, a combination earspoon/tweezer with pansy motif, and a cut glass scent bottle with gilt metal top, 17cm x 15cm x 17cm (height with handle raised). * For an identical basket see Zalkin (E) Thimbles and Sewing Implements Page 116 and colour plate opposite, that example with applied pager to base “Naquiet & Co, Palais Royal No. 152, Md de Nauvenutes, brevetes du Roi Poui, Import de Thuile de Maiafsav, Paris.
