18th century small ivory oval frame containing a knot of two locks of children's hair from Barrington Pope Blachford and John Blachford, mounted on oval enamel panel inscribed with monograms, the reverse with inscription "Barrington Pope Blachford - inoculated at Armfield(?) May 23rd 1787 aged 3 year and half. John Blachford - inoculated at Armfield(?) May 23rd 1787 aged 2 years". 8cm x 6.5cm oval, including frame. The inoculation referred to would have been for smallpox. Barrington Pope Blachford was an MP for Newtown, Isle of Wight between 1807 and 1816, dying on 14th May 1816 at Osborne House which was subsequently sold later by his widow to Queen Victoria in 1845.
