A group of early nineteenth century Spode transfer-printed wares, c.1820. They are all decorated in red with applied enamel colours as pattern # 1994. To include: three plates, a soup dish, two side plates and a small platter. 19 - 27 cm wide. (7)Condition: One side plate with under-rim chip, platter with restored rim, soup with rivet repair, one plate with rim chip and one worn.
An early nineteenth century blue and white transfer-printed two-handled loving cup, c.1830. It is decorated to both sides with two different portions of 'The real Cabinet of Friendship and Equality' print. It has hand-painted enamel decoration. 17 cm tall. (1)Condition: Restored chip to the foot rim.
A mid-nineteenth century transfer-printed cup and saucer, c.1840. It is decorated with a titled scene of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. James William Cusack, Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, the circular silver brooch with black enamel, a central star encompassing the initial C, within a pierced circular border interspersed with Celtic knots on a foliate and geometric engraved ground, the back engraved 'James W. Cusack Obit 25th Sept 1861', 50mm diameterQty: (1)NOTESProvenance: Collection of Jack Webb (1923-2019), London. James William Cusack (1788-1861) was the president of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1827, 1847 and 1858. He was educated in Trinity College Dublin. After graduating he joined Dr Steevens Hospital Dublin as resident surgeon and became a bold and dexterous operator. Cusack could use his scalpel without hesitation, and overnight became famous for his speedy first aid-treatment of a patient who was bleeding to death from a severed artery due to a gunshot wound. Cusack was also Surgeon-in-Ordinary to the Queen in Ireland.
