Y AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY ENAMELLED GOLD BOX WITH THE PORTRAIT OF BERNHARD VON LINDENAU CIRCA 1797, UNIDENTIFIED MAKER'S MARK The rectangular box with a miniature portrait to the lid of Bernhard von Lindenau gazing at a star after Giuseppe or Josef Grassi, the base of the box with enamelled pictorial horoscope with demi lioness and foliate decoration to the corners, the sides with scrolled acanthus leaves, flowers and grotesque decoration, stamped with Paris 1797 poincon, France 1798-1809 little guarantee mark, and a lozenge shaped maker's mark Size/dimensions: 6 x 5 x 1.8cm Gross weight: 105.5gBernhard Von Lindenau (1779-1854) was a German lawyer, astronomer, politician, and notable art collector, whose collection became the foundation of the Staatliche Lindenau-Museum in Altenburg.
