A set of three Indian miniatures, painted in polychrome on ivory with erotic scenes, 7 x 10. 5cm; one other similar; two others, similar, 19th or early 20th c (6) . All in fine condition, the ivory miniatures unframed and unmounted hence with some natural or slight of warping of the ivory but no cracks or repair, the two other miniatures executed on paper or card and mounted but unframed
A Burmese ivory chess set, intricately caved, stained red and natural, kings 10cm h, mid 19th c (lacking two red pawns); with a Chinese export ivory box, pierced and carved with scenes, dragons to the lid, 24 x 9. 5cm (31) . Several pieces with minor repairs such as attempts to glue the base where the screw loose, but in general, the pieces are in excellent condition albeit very dusty with the accretion of dust over time. The most serious faults are as follows: one white rook missing the circular base, one white knight missing the carved horses head, only the pedestal remaining, one white pawn broken but complete. Box - very dusty and with small loses. Please ask for detailed images to ascertain the condition of the lot.
A Victorian turned ivory "Old English' chess set, stained red and natural, Kings 9cm h (32) . White site - minute chip to the finial of the king and the queen, on one rook the finial has been broken off and neatly glued back into position without loss. Red side - king, finial slightly chipped and broken in two pieces and amateurishly glued this could be much improved upon. Queen, broken at the stem and amateurishly glued. All the other pieces in generally excellent condition with no damage or repairs, somewhat dusty with the accretion of dust and grime in the ring turnings and carved detail etc which could be cleaned with care.
Medical. A set of Victorian ivory handled eye surgeon's instruments, in fitted morocco case lined in purple velvet, 17cm l . Complete all but for one; most instruments with some discoloration and localised rusting the handles yellowing with age, the case rather shabby the lid detached. Please request digital images in order to make certain as to the condition of this lot
A very rare silver mounted ivory bellows for perfumed powder, turned circular with a small central hole and fine leather collapsible bellows, 7cm diam, early-mid18th c. In an unusually fine state of preservation with no splits or cracks to the ivory, the paper collapsible sides in fine condition. Some rust to the iron needle in the centre in the interior.
A Victorian rosewood stick barometer, with ivory scales signed CHADBURN BROS SHEFFIELD, REGISTERED NO3980 Oct 14th 1841 No154 and inscribed TEN AM YESTERDAY 10AM TO DAY, with twin verniers and mercury thermometer, in figured case with arched top and bulbshaped cistern, 92cm h. Rather dusty behind the glass and the lid of the cistern an old turned and stained wood replacement. The thermometer original but broken. Apart from these faults in excellent and entirely original condition, charged with mercury.
A Royal Doulton porcelain Spanish ware vase and cover of shield shape, decorated in "prismatic' enamels and raised gilding with naturalistic flowers and foliage in tinted ivory and pale pink borders, the domed cover with a large gilt finial and on square foot, 41cm h, printed mark, painted C2192/G. W. 334, c1890 . Finial cleanly broken off and amateurishly glued back into position, no other damage or restoration
