19th-20th century AD. Group comprising: 19th century small bone or ivory lion (with wood stand), tiger (with wood stand) and elephant figures; a 19th century small bone or ivory 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' monkeys figure; with a pair of 20th century carved stone 'zhuangyuan' pieces, each with concealed red coffin. Property of a Harwich, Essex, Uk collector; by inheritance; mostly acquired before 1920 by a merchant seaman. 545 grams total, 4-10cm (1 1/2 - 4"). [6, No Reserve] Good condition; some minor defects.

A pair of flat ivory panels in card reveal frames, each with a hand-painted portrait of a noblewoman; one facing left with hand raised to the mouth; one facing right with small bird on the raised hand. Property of an American collector; acquired Europe 1970s-1990s. 103 grams total, 20cm (8"). [2] Fair condition; most colours faded other than yellow.

An Impressive Pair of Japanese Shibayama Tusk Vases, Meiji Period, finely inlaid in mother of pearl, tortoise shell and coral. The tusks depicting cranes and wild fowl amidst hydrangea, chrysanthemum and lily, having carved rock formation to base and cranes in flight to top of frieze, the vases seated in a decorative hard wood slipper, approx 35 x 13.5 x 10.5 cms, supported on carved rose wood stands, the stands having floral and key form design in high relief inlaid with mother of pearl and four ivory carved floral panels. (one having original collectors label to base and character marks in ink to one ivory panel, approx 19 x 21 x 21 cms. Provenance: From a private collection belonging to the Late Dermott Levins, avid Oriental collector, Levins bought from notable London galleries and auction houses in the mid-1940's including Glendining & Co New Bond Street, Yamanaka & Co New Bond Street and later Sothebys.
