A French marquetry inlaid table en chiffoniere 19th century, the oblong serpentine hinged top inlaid with a dive in flight within a laurel wreath, bordered by floral sprays and fleur-de-lys in fruitwoods and stained ivory and an outer cross banded border, the underside of the lid in rosewood, burr walnut and calamander, inlaid with a star in ebony and ivory, over a serpentine frieze drawer with gilt metal mounts and floral fruitwood and ivory marquetry, the conforming sides centred by gilt masks, on angular cabriole supports with gilt mounts and sabots, 18 x 16½in. (46 x 42cm.), 29in. (73.5cm.) high.
A George IV rosewood banded mahogany tea table the D-shaped fold over top swivelling to reveal storage beneath, over a brass inlaid and rosewood centre banded frieze, on twin turned, reeded and petal carved columns to an ivory inlaid keyhole shaped base, raised on four strung downswept supports with brass hairy paw cap casters, 36 x 18in. (91.5 x 46cm.), 29½in. (75cm.) high.

(5cm.) diameter ball with an outer layer carved and pierced with coiled dragons amidst clouds, with fourteen circular apertures revealing the nine star and dot pierced spheres within, supported on a turned column with figural and rockwork carved mount, on a toothed circular base, 6¼in. Pittway Bros., a crocodile Gladstone type travelling case with silver mounted fittings, the fittings by Norman Marshall, London 1901 and 1902, the double-ended medicine spoon by Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater, London 1902, the ten jar and bottle covers and the shaving brush each engraved with a monogram ‘GP’ (another from another case), ivory mounted accessories including two steel boot pulls and various brushes, a manicure set in a leather folder, a stationery folder, a portable mirror and a leather cigar case, gilt stamped ‘Pittway Bros, London, EC1’, the exterior stamped ‘G. B. P.’, 47cm (18 ?in) long. Volume I of The Directory of Gold & Silversmiths (Woodbridge, 1987), p. 368 mentions William Tween and Frederick Purnell under the entry for Pittway Brothers. They are recorded as having bought the firm, listed in London directories as being a manufacturer of desks and dressing cases, circa 1861.
