A Chinese Canton carved ivory card case, 19th century, each side carved with a serpentine reserve depicting figures and pagodas in wooded gardens, one with vacant oval cartouche, foliate carving to sides, pull-off cover, 4½ x 3in. (11.5 x 7.5cm.).* Condition: Cover has two hairlines to ends on one side - one 1in. and the other ½in. long. One side is slightly sun faded. No other faults.

A Chinese carved and stained ivory box and cover, Qing Dynasty, of bun form on short, circular foot, carved and dark green stained in the style of a silhouette, the cover carved with two bixies, within borders of auspicious objects and Greek key bands, 2 1/8in. (5.4cm.) diameter, crack to lid.* Condition: 1cm. crack to edge of cover. A few tiny frits to dark green borders. Otherwise good.

A good Chinese Canton carved ivory card case, 19th century, finely carved throughout with figures, a boat, a seated noblewoman in a wheeled chair and pagodas amidst trees, flowering shrubs and flowers, the lower corners carved with pairs of peaches, pull-off cover, containing a folded piece of pink laid paper with stamped Mandarin seal, the paper inscribed 'Mandarin of Chung Chou', 4½ x 3in. (11.5 x 7.6cm.).* Condition: - Case: Very good condition, with no faults. - Paper: Tiny hole and folded in three.

A late 19th century Louis Vuitton travelling trunk, covered in the Damier pattern canvas with two painted yellow stripes, embossed leather plaque to front inscribed 'PARIS LOUIS VUITTON MADE IN FRANCE LONDON', with wooden slats, brass corner mounts, catches, locks and side handles, embossed leather bound edges, the hinged top enclosing an interior with ivory glazed calico lining and purple ribbon quilted calico inside the lid, lacks tray, on iron roller castors, metal baseplate, large Louis Vuitton label to the interior, no. 45849, with Vuitton key, numbered to match lock plate, the catches stamped 'L.V.', 31½ x 18¼in. (80 x 46.5cm.), 12¾in. (32.25cm.) high, exterior with some old luggage labels.* Condition: Front panel has old worm to the left hand side and there is some lighter worm to right side of front panel and to the slats on the base. Heavy wear/holes to canvas across the surface, mainly to the lower half. Some surface wear to leather edge binding and two holes to leather edging /strapping to front left. Wear to lower edge of canvas to all sides. Wear to wooden slats to underside and also denting to metal base plate. Interior lacks tray.

An Indian carved ivory figure of an elephant howdah party, late 19th century, the caparisoned elephant with richly carved foliate and floral decoration and loose bell on chain around its neck, carrying two nobles and a rider, four attendants on foot with spears and sabres on the corners of the rectangular base, with pierced frieze and six ball feet, 7¾in. (19.7cm.) high.* Condition: Very good condition, with no losses or restoration.

A Japanese carved ivory okimono, Meiji period (1868-1912), in tea stained ivory, depicting an elderly man with a pipe seated upon a hollow log with a trailing vine and patches of bark remaining, signed to base, 2 5/8in. (6.6cm.) high.* Condition: Very good, with no faults.  

Lot 422

A Chinese 19th century embroidered silk panel, the main red ground panel worked in silver and gold thread and coloured silks with three scholars in a fenced garden, within a pale blue border embroidered with birds and flowers, the overhanging top depicting the eight immortals, within a similar ivory border, the edges finished with polychrome tassels, 39½ x 40¾in. (100.5 x 103.5cm.), with overhang in folded position.

Lot 841

An Art Deco ivory and tortoiseshell desk clock, the bevelled ivory plate with tortoiseshell stringing, enclosing a gold painted dial with Arabic numerals, signed '8 Days Swiss Made', integral winder and hinged stand verso, 3 5/8 x 3¼in. (9.2 x 8.3cm.).* Condition: Clock winds but does not run. Ivory frame good, with no chips or cracks. Small section of tortoiseshell stringing to top right has some glue residue to edges and a worn area to the surface from a repair. Small yellow spot stain to ivory to top edge.

Two Chinese 19th century Canton carved ivory tangram qiqiaoban puzzle boxes, both of square form with slide-off cover, one cover carved and pierced with a fisherman and two boys beside a lake, the other with a phoenix on a rocky outcrop amidst foliage, the sides of both boxes carved with buildings in landscapes, both containing floral carved and pierced puzzle pieces of various shapes, 2 1/8in (5.4cm.) square. (2)* Condition: - Fisherman box: Contains six puzzle pieces. Side panel to right hand side has probably been off and glued back in place. Tiny chip to one of these glued joints. Small chip to lower left corner of cover.- Phoenix box: Contains seven puzzle pieces. Good, with no faults.

A Japanese ivory and shibayama large vesta case, Meiji period (1868-1912), decorated with flowering plants with a pheasant, a bee, butterflies and a flying bird, hinged cover, striker to base, 3¼ x 2in. (8.2 x 5.1cm.); together with an ivory and shibayama pill box, decorated with a floral spray, 1¼in. (3.2cm.) diameter. (2)* Condition: - Vesta: No losses to shibayama. Some wear to gilt lacquer, showing darker lacquer beneath. Small light brown stain to centre bottom of front. Feint old 1in. hairline to right side of case. Hinge working correctly. - Box: Very small crack to central roundel on cover. Otherwise good.

Ten Japanese carved ivory netsukes, Edo / Meiji period, depicting actors, immortals and other figures, most signed to base, 2.2cm. to 4.5cm. high. (10)* Condition: All in good condition with no chips or other damage.  

Lot 439

A Chinese Canton carved and pierced ivory brush pot, 19th century, oval form, carved with figures including a boy with bird on a water buffalo, buildings and trees against a diaper pierced ground, the moulded rim with lappet pendant border, 6¼in. (15.8cm.) high, lacks base, on a carved hardwood stand. (2)* Condition: The pot has a natural crack which has opened up at the lower edge, extending into the pierced diaperwork. There is also a 1cm diameter hole in the diaper ground to the above right of this crack. There are some small natural hairlines inside the rim and one tiny orange stain spot to the ivory. The base and (possibly) carved foot section are missing. The hardwood stand has damage and losses at one end of the pierced apron.

A Japanese carved ivory okimono of Kintaro fighting the giant carp, Meiji period (1868-1912), the carp rising from the waves with a smaller carp atop, towering over the young Kintaro, signed to base, 4in. (10.2cm.) high.* Condition: Good colour and patina. No chips or cracks. Tiny split to tip of the giant carp's tail (a fault from the carving). No other faults.

A large mid-19th century Dieppe carved ivory mirror, finely carved with applied overlapping leaves, the arched top with a coat of arms 'Montioye St Denys' flanked by winged cherubs and with floral basket surmount, with further applied decoration including green man masks, portrait medallions, further arms and foliate urns, surrounding an oval bevelled plate, 32 x 21½in. (81.25 x 54.5cm.), losses.

Lot 497

A large Japanese ivory okimono of Rakan and a dragon, Meiji period (1868-1912), depicting Rakan seated upon a rock, holding a staff, a dragon emerging from his bowl and Guanyin standing above, unsigned, 13½in. (34.25cm.) high.* Condition: Top of staff has been off and has been glued back into place slightly askew, causing a gap between two sides of the rings to the front of the staff. Several natural cracks to ivory to back of dragon. No other faults.

Napoleon interest - a Chinese Canton carved ivory patch box, the domed cover depicting and inscribed 'Napoleon's Tomb', the sides carved with houses in a wooded landscape, the base with a flower, 1 3/8in. (3.5cm.) diameter.* Condition: Small crack to edge of cover and two small chips to top edge of carved section of cover. Small crack to edge of base.  

Lot 386

An Edwardian ivory pocket watch case, the angular box with slope front and bevelled glass window, hinged lid with push-button release, bottle-green silk interior with ivory watch mount and silver plated hinges, 3½ x 2½in. (8.9 x 6.3cm.), 2½in. (6.3cm.) high.* Condition: Tiny 3mm. hairline from top left corner of window and a few small scratches to ivory. Otherwise good, original condition. Push-button catch working well. Original green paper lining on base is worn.  

Lot 673

A WWII Third Reich German Army Officers dagger with scabbard, engraved to blade ACS within a scale and Alcosa over Solingen, turned ivory celluloid grip, scabbard with two hanging loops.* Condition: The celluloid grip has shrunk and spins around, otherwise good.  

Lot 473

A finely carved Chinese Canton ivory bodkin case, cylindrical form, carved throughout with a dragon, birds, phoenixes and bats between petalled and beaded borders, the ends with floral rosettes, containing various ivory bodkins etc., 6 1/8in. (15.6cm.) long.* Condition: Screw thread to cover loose and does not allow the lid to be screwed-on tightly. Very small crack to top edge of cover. No other faults.

An Anglo-Indian Vizagapatam engraved ivory, horn and sandalwood pocket watch case, 19th century, the rectangular case with domed cover, decorated with the goddess Saraswati within a floral cartouche and floral and foliate meander borders, the sides similarly decorated, the interior with easel back watch mount and horn veneered borders, raised on carved ivory paw feet, 4 7/8 x 4in. (12.3 x 10.2cm.), 3in. (7.5cm.) high.* Condition: Small 1in. hairline to front left corner on side. No other damage - in fine, original condition.  

Lot 492

Two Japanese carved ivory netsukes of monkeys, Edo / Meiji period, one depicting a seated monkey and an octopus in a tight embrace, unsigned, 1 3/8in. (3.5cm.) high; the other a robed monkey with staff, signed to base, a/f. (2)* Condition: - Monkey/octopus: hairline crack to one side and a few other small, natural cracks. No other faults.- Robed monkey: Good, but there is probably something missing from the left side of figure.

A large Japanese carved ivory okimono of Shou Lao, early 20th century, depicted with gnarled staff and scroll and holding a peach, signed to back, 13in. (33cm.) high; together with a carved ivory okimono of a toad on a lotus leaf, 6¾in. (17cm.) long. (2)* Condition: - Shou Lao: Small chip to ivory to top of head No other faults.- Toad: Tiny frit to tip of leaf. Some old cracks to ivory along the grain and some fading to colour from sunlight.

Lot 839

An early 19th century French carved and silver gilt inlaid ivory fan, the guards with shell carving and pierced and silver gilt inlaid foliate decoration, the sticks similarly decorated, the leaf printed and hand coloured with a pastoral scene between embossed and gilded sprays of fruiting vines, a similar smaller reserve with two noblewomen and embossed gilt decoration verso, with ivory silk tassel, 10¾in. (27.25cm.) long.* Condition: Piece missing from bottom of one guard (just above baluster shaped hinge section). Crack & chip with small inserted repair to lower guard on other side. Sticks in good condition with no faults. Leaf has minor wear and small end splits along folds. Tear across top of one fold of leaf just to right of main image. Some wear and glued tears to leaf on left hand guard. Four small paper patch repairs to back of leaf to left hand side.

A Japanese carved ivory okimono of a farmer, Meiji period (1868-1912), seated on a bamboo mat, a bundle of sticks at his side, unsigned, 1¼in. (3.2cm.) high; together with a miniature ivory okimono of a lady in a carriage, signed, 1½in. (3.8cm.) high; and two other small okimonos, a/f. (4)* Condition: - Farmer with sticks: Very good, with no faults.- Carriage: Tip of one handle missing from front. Otherwise good.- Beggar with bowl: On a whitemetal mount. Lacks right hand.- Boat: Damaged - figure lacks both hands and one leg and possibly piece from front.

A French carved ivory book plaque depicting a poodle dog, c.1900, the slightly convex rectangular plaque carved if relief with a seated poodle, 4 1/8 x 2½in. (10.5 x 6.5cm.); together with a carved ivory figure of a sleeping pig, marked "LUCKY PIG" to base, 2½in. (6.3cm.) long; and a carved ivory bird, 3¾in. (9.5cm.) long. (3)* Condition: - Book plaque: Tiny chip to top right. Otherwise good.- Pig: Hairline crack along back of pig. Otherwise good.- Bird: Small glue-filled chip just above top of one leg. Otherwise good.

Four Indian carved ivory models, 19th / early 20th century, comprising a bullock cart with rider, a bullock cart pulling to nobles in a carriage and a nobleman in a sedan chair carried by four attendants, all on rectangular bases with turned feet, the largest 6in. (15.5cm.) long; together with an Indian carved ivory model of a boat, 6 7/8in. (17.5cm.) long. (4)* Condition: - Bullock cart: Two small cracks to one wheel and two spokes to each wheel are separated from the hub (probably a fault in the making).- Bullocks & carriage: Lacks two turned feet from base, yoke and finials from roof of carriage. Bullocks have been glued in place and are slightly mis-aligned.- Sedan chair: Lack bells/steps? from sides of chair. Otherwise good.- Boat: Good condition.

Three Chinese Canton carved ivory page turners, 19th century, one with blade carved with auspicious objects against a diaper ground, the handle carved and pierced with Guanyin playing a flute with a pheasant on her shoulder, an attendant at her feet, 11¼in. (28.5cm.) long; the second with waisted handle carved with figures and pagodas amidst trees, 10 1/8in. (25.7cm.) long; the third with curved blade, the elliptical handle carved with a bird flying amidst bamboo, 8¾in. (22.cm.) long. (3)* Condition: - Guanyin: Very good with no faults.- Figures and trees: Several small chips to edge of blade and 1in. crack to tip. Handle very good.- Bird & bamboo: Very good condition.

Lot 505

Two Japanese carved ivory okimonos, Meiji period (1868-1912), the first of a farmer, a basket over his shoulder and a kettle upon the ground at his feet, on an oval base with tree stump, signed to inset red plaque to base, 7 1/8in. (18cm.) high; the second of a farmer carrying a vine, signed to engraved plaque to base, 7½in. (19cm.) high, repairs. (2)* Condition: - Farmer with basket: Ivory is very white throughout and has probably been bleached by sunlight. In very good condition, with no damage.- Farmer with vine: Figure has been off base and has glued repairs to both feet, bottom of vine and bamboo staff. There is a chip to the ivory to the inside of the bottom of the staff. Sun bleaching to front of figure.

Lot 488

A good and large Japanese Meiji period sectional carved ivory figure, 1868-1912, of a female farmer, carrying a basket and bundle of sticks on a wooden frame to her back, holding a parasol and with a cricket upon her arm, on a naturalistic base with central log and single flower, signed in red to underside, 15in. (38cm.) high.* Condition: The flower protruding from the bundle of sticks is loose in its mounting. One of the flowerheads is broken off and there is a glued repair to the other flowerhead, plus one small piece missing from the bottom of the stem. The basket has a vertical crack down the left side. Old natural hairlines to top of head and base. Old shrinkage crack has opened up just below the right front shoulder.

An Indian carved ivory model of an upright piano, probably a dolls house piece, c.1900, with carved and pierced foliate panels, opening doors to the upright back, an open music book, candlesticks and lyre form pedal frame, raised on baluster turned supports, 4 5/8in. (11.8cm.) high, minor losses; together with a similar ivory baby's high chair, with opening pot cupboard. (2)* Condition: - Piano: Scroll missing from left of surmount and repaired break to top of left hand side of back. Top of back and lyre pedal frame are loose and need re-affixing. Three small holes to apron between front legs - possibly originally had hanging bells or similar here. - Chair: Good, with no faults.

Lot 511

A Japanese ivory and maki-e lacquer page turner, Meiji period (1868-1912), decorated to both sides with birds amidst fruiting and flowering plants in gilt maki-e lacquer, 13¼in. (33.6cm.) long; together with a pair of ivory letter openers with silver mounts depicting a pair of ducks, 5¾in. (14.5cm.) long. (3)* Condition: - Page turner: One side with minor rubbing to gilding showing the darker lacquer beneath, plus a few tiny scratches to lacquer. The other side has a few flakes to the gilt lacquer and some rust coloured spot stains to the ivory throughout. The centre of the ivory around the decoration is dirty with engrained dust.- Letter openers: One silver mount is missing one of the duck's necks. On the other other, the same ducks neck is bent. The gilt lacquered foliate decoration to the handles is heavily worn, showing mainly the iron red beneath.

A Chinese Canton carved ivory card case, 19th century, the front carved with a serpentine reserve with figures and pagodas amidst trees, within a dense floral carved border and key diaper ground, the reverse similarly carved to the reserve, pull-off cover, 3 3/8 x 1 7/8in. (8.5 x 4.8cm.).* Condition: Very good condition, with no faults.  

Lot 789

A 19th century mother of pearl card case, rectangular with diamond MOP veneer, hinged lid with push-button release, 4 x 3¼in. (10.2 x 8.25cm.).* Condition: MOP good - small veneer repair and flake to MOP to lower edge of hinge side. Small chip to ivory veneer to edge of lid near catch.

A Japanese carved ivory okimono, Meiji period (1868-1912), of a robed man and a boy, the man holding a scroll, the boy holding a peach, signed to base, 3 5/8in. (9.2cm.) high.* Condition: Very good condition, with no faults.  

Lot 853

An early 19th century ivory miniature travelling thermometer, the removable mercury thermometer contained in an ivory toothpick-style box, with yellow metal pique work and central cartouche, 2 5/8in. (6.7cm.) long.* Condition: Good, original condition. Lacks velvet from inside the lid. Scratching and wear to base. Push-button catch works well and closes cleanly.  

Lot 844

A 19th century ivory and horn walking cane, the shaped ivory handle on a tapered, sectional horn stick with unmarked silver mount and brass ferrule, 34¼in. (87cm.) long.* Condition: Crack to back of handle and some rust staining along the crack. Otherwise good.  

Lot 848

A Dieppe carved ivory cased diorama, 19th century, depicting two girls collecting flowers in a landscape with buildings and trees, the glass with painted foliage, within a composition box frame, 4 x 3in. (10 x 7.5cm.).* Condition: Inside of glass dirty and some fading to painted foliage. One tree is loose inside frame. Otherwise good.  

Lot 496

A Japanese carved ivory okimono of a farmer and boy, Meiji period (1868-1912), the farmer seated on a wooden bench with the boy beside him, a bowl of flowers on a low table, signed to base, 5 1/8in. (13cm.) high; together with a okimono of a peasant and a duck, on a naturalistic base, 8¼in. (21cm.) high, losses. (2)* Condition: - Farmer & boy: One flower missing from bowl. A small piece missing from both farmer's and boy's hands. Otherwise good. - Peasant & duck: Duck's head missing and probably originally had a second duck to base. Glue residue around neck and left arm and to top of right hand - top of staff missing.

Lot 506

A Japanese carved ivory pot and cover, Meiji period (1868-1912), the circular box heavily carved throughout with dragons amidst stylised clouds, the cover with ball finial, signed with single red character mark to base, interior and cover, 3 1/8in. (8cm.) high.* Condition: Good condition, with no damage to ivory. Cover does not seat properly on one side, although it does appear to be original.   

Lot 528

An Indian carved ivory figure of an elephant howdah, late 19th century, the caparisoned elephant with two nobles and rider, finely carved with foliate decoration, 4 3/8in. (10.75cm.) high.* Condition: Originally on a base - locating holes to three feet. Roof lacks one finial and the other damaged. Several old hairline cracks to sides of elephant and another to front of elephant's head. No other damage or faults.

A Japanese carved ivory box, Meiji period (1868-1912), circular form, the cover carved in low relief with the head of an elephant, 2½in. (6.3cm.) diameter; together with a Japanese ivory napkin ring, engraved with a pair of lions. (2)* Condition: Good condition, with no faults.  

Lot 487

A Japanese carved ivory netsuke of a cat, Edo period, the recumbent cat with head turned to the right, 1½in. (3.8cm.) long, mounted on a later silver bottle stopper, London 1906.* Condition: Netsuke has had two small holes drilled to the underside and a threaded bolt and lug inserted for attaching to the stopper and stopping it spinning once mounted. Old natural hairlines to netsuke and there is a pinhole to the ivory to the cat's back. Brown stain to tail.

(15.25cm.) long; two Dieppe ivory floral carved cross pendants; six carved ivory charms; a Dieppe ivory stag page marker; etc. (20)* Condition: - Bodkin case & bodkin: Good condition.- Pin cushion: Handle missing. - Tape measure: Small crack at either side of tape slot.- Crucifix: Good condition.- Cross pendants: Good condition;- Charms: Good condition.- Page marker: Good condition.- Stanhope needle case: Good condition.- Stanhope dip pen: Good condition. Lot 851

An ivory and silver plated retractable comb, c.1900, 3 1/8in. (7.9cm.) long; together with an ivory and brass folding 12in. pocket rule; an ivorine Saynor hawkbill pocket knife; and a 19th century ivory handled fleam. (4)* Condition: - Comb: Small crack to one corner of ivory. Otherwise good.- Rule: Chip to ivory beside hinge and also a crack to same place on opposite side. Some rust showing to hinge parts - there is also some rust coloured discolouration to the ivory in places. - Saynor knife: Some scuffing to celluloid. Blade has some light rust tarnishing along edge of blade.- Fleam: Some tiny nicks to edge of blade. Small chips across end of handle.

Lot 475

A Chinese Canton carved ivory chess set, late 19th / early 20th century, stained red and natural, carved as the Imperial family and their court, the rooks as caparisoned elephants, on waisted pedestal bases, the white king standing 4¾in. (12cm) high. (complete, 32)* Condition: The white pieces are slightly lighter to the front than the back - very slight sun fading. White king has a filled chip or crack in the ivory to the left side of his hair and the blade from weapon is detached (snapped off). Hairline to one turret on one white rook. The turret on the other white rook has been off and glued back at an angle. Six of the white pawns are missing their sword blades.The red king has a few tiny chips to the base edges. The red queen has a large chip to the lower right hem of her robe. One bishop has a tiny frit to the hat brim and the other has a chip to the base at front left. On one rook, the rider has been glued back in place, and the other turret is glued in place at an angle. One red knight has a tiny chip to the top of the left hand. Red pawns - two are missing part of the handle from their weapon and one is missing the blade from the weapon.

A portrait miniature on ivory of a cat by Hene Wheelwright, late 19th / early 20th century, the tabby cat sleeping in a basket on a blue blanket, signed 'Hené', oval, 3 x 2¼in. (7.6 x 5.7cm.), within the original gilt fluted frame, inscribed verso, 'Painting on ivory, Sleeping Hol..?.., painted from life'.* Condition: Miniature in very good condition, with no faults. Frame has losses throughout to gesso.

A Chinese Canton carved ivory counter box, 19th century, circular with turn-off cover, carved with figures in a garden with mountains distant, the sides with houses amidst trees, containing a single mother of pearl counter, 1 5/8in. (22)* Condition: - Counter box: Four tiny frits to edge of cover. Otherwise good.- Tangram: Contains seven pieces. Very good condition with no faults.- Puzzle ball: Two small chips to edge of base. Otherwise good.- Shakers: Red example has light wear to colour. No other faults.- Draughts: Red set has some light wear to colour. Otherwise good.

Lot 525

An impressively large Indian carved ivory model of an elephant howdah with Maharajah, mid-19th century, modelled with richly carved caparison and howdah, decorated with trefoil foliage and scrollwork, the roof hung with loose bells and with large bud finials, a ladder suspended from chains to both sides and loose chains around each of the elephant's feet and a further chain suspending a large bell around its neck, the mahout carrying a water pipe for the seated figure behind with his attendant, mounted on a stepped three-tier ebonised base with pierced ivory trellis galleries and peaked corner posts, on elephant form feet, 15¼in. (38.75cm.) high.* Condition: Some damage / losses as follows: Three bells missing from roof. Tips of tusks trimmed - possibly original but may be due to damage. Two vacant hooks to rear of howdah and there were two to the front originally, the curled tips of which are now missing - these probably suspended large tassel decorations. One pierced trellis section missing from beneath base on one side. The chains suspending one of the ladders are later ivorine replacements. A few small patches of wear to ebonised finish on base.

Lot 512

A Japanese carved ivory okimono, Meiji period (1868-1912), depicting a robed seated gentleman with beard, holding a plate, a gourd bottle and lidded basket at his side, on an oval naturalistic base with four stump feet, signed Mitsu.... to base, 4¼in. (10.75cm.) high, piece deficient from front of base.* Condition: Lacks a piece from towards front of base - there is a vacant locating hole in the centre. Otherwise good, with no other chips, cracks or restoration.

Two Japanese carved ivory okimonos, Meiji period (1868-1912), the first modelled as a standing man with a fan and holding a hooped staff, two boys climbing upon his shoulders, signed to base, 11¼in. (28.5cm.) high; the second of a woodsman with axe, standing upon a rocky base with flowers and foliage, a bird upon his shoulder, signed to base, 10¾in. (27.25cm.) high. (2)* Condition: - Man with fan: Some sun bleaching to ivory to the front but surface remains glossy. No damage or losses to carving.- Woodsman: Old glue residue to front and back of joint between figure and base. Small empty hole to front of left foot - possibly a small piece missing from here. Several old vertical cracks to ivory to back of figure. Front of figure has paler colour than the back due to sun fading.

Three Japanese carved ivory okimonos, Meiji period (1868-1912), the first of an old man holding a Buddhistic dog, holding a gnarled staff and a boy at his feet, signed to red plaque to base, 6 7/8in. (17.5cm.) high; the second of a farmer with a rabbit on his shoulder, holding a gnarled staff and a boy at his feet, signed to red plaque to base, 7in. (17.75cm.) high; the third of a farmer and two boys, one in a basket on his head, signed to base, 8 7/8in. (22.5cm.) high. (3)* Condition: All three have some fading to colour to the front. - Farmer with dog: Very good overall. Two small cracks to base either side of the inset plaque. No other faults.- Farmer with rabbit: Very good with no faults.- Farmer with two boys: Very good with no faults.

Three Japanese carved ivory okimonos, Meiji period (1868-1912), one of Buddha standing holding a child above his head upon a fan, 6¼in. (15.8cm.) high; one of a fisherman with bamboo rod, holding a turtle, signed to base, 5 3/8in. (13.6cm.) high; the third of a magician, a/f. (3)* Condition: - Buddha: Good with no faults.- Fisherman: Good with no faults.- Magician: Creature from top of bowl/hair missing. Fan detached from left leg.

Lot 491

A good Japanese carved ivory Tanto, Meiji period (1868-1912), with straight, single edged blade, the ivory tsuka and saya finely carved in low relief with birds flying amidst flowering branches, with carved mounts and terminals finely carved and stained with stylised foliage and flowers, the ivory Kogatana similarly carved to the handle, 10½in. (26.6cm.) long.* Condition: Three faint natural hairlines to the tsuka. Tiny frit to raised lip towards top of saya. Minute nick to blade at top of Kogatana. In very good condition overall. 

Lot 474

Three 19th century Chinese Canton carved ivory bodkin cases, one carved with a dragon, birds and butterflies amidst cloud scrolls, the cover with bud finial and on a turned reel base with rosette terminal, 6½in. (16.5cm.) long; the other two cases similarly carved, 5 7/8in. to 6in. (14.9cm. to 15.2cm.) long, each containing various ivory bodkins. (3)* Condition: The first case with tiny chip to top of threaded section on main body. Otherwise good. The other two lack the finial. One also has a hairline crack to the cover and the cover also does not seat properly on the threads.   

Lot 514

A Japanese carved ivory okimono of the Takarabune, Meiji period (1868-1912), depicting the seven immortals and attendants onboard the boat, on a stylised 'wave' base, signed to inset red plaque to base, 16¼in. (41.25cm.) long, losses.* Condition: One of figure's hands at rear is missing. Small piece missing from table and small part missing from bow (there is a small 'lug' showing with nothing attached). Rudder missing.
