Genje long rug woven with the date 1871, south east Caucasus, late 19th century, 9ft. 6in. X 3ft. 11in. 2.90m. X 1.20m. Overall wear; corrosion to dark brown; re-piling in places, especially to the white areas; slight loss to top end; outer guards missing lower end. The field of typical diagonal stripes, wide ivory main border with a shield woven with Armenian 1871 at the top end; dark brown guards of star or flowerhead motifs. Soft palette.

Overall wear, slightly heavier in places; corrosion to dark brown; small re-weave in top part of field and another in lower part of field; other small repairs; few surface marks; losses to ends. Fabric tape to all edges verso. Multi-coloured diagonal stripes within an ivory main border of double cruciform shield motifs and reciprocal pale blue and terracotta medachyl guards.

Gendje 'boteh' rug, south east Caucasus, last quarter 19th century, 8ft. 6in. X 3ft. 7in. 2.59m. X 1.09m. Overall wear with corrosion to dark browns; 'bite' to top left corner; crease mark to lower right side; slight loss to ends and fraying to selvedges. Light terracotta field with diagonal rows of boteh in ivory, chestnut, pale green, mid-green, yellow and dark blue; ivory stepped medallion main border within reciprocal medachyl guards. Provenance: by direct descent through the present owner's family.

Trimmed with cowrie shells and beads; plaited wool loops to top edges; plainweave back. Holes to back; 'bites' to corners. Small Baluchi khorjin with ivory hooked medallion on a pale blue field, Khorasan, north east Persia, circa 1920s-30s, 1ft. 8in. X 1ft. 4in,. 0.51m. X 0.41m. Plaited wool loops and weft float brocade top. And an Uzbek flat weave khorjin, Uzbekistan, circa 1920s-30s, 2ft. X 1ft. 10in. 0.61m. X 0.56m. Striped plainweave back and with fringing to all sides; plaited wool long ties to top corners. (4)

Khamseh 'morghi' rug, Fars, south west Persia, circa 1920s-30s, 5ft. 5in. X 4ft. 2in. 1.65m. X 1.27m. Overall wear, heavier in some places; losses to ends. Dark blue field with two ivory pole medallions; all over 'morghi' (pecking chicken) design with a few chicks and tiny animals; narrow borders.

Afshar 'boteh' rug, Kerman area, south east Persia, early 20th century, 6ft. 1in. X 4ft. 6in. 1.86m. X 1.37m. The indigo pear-drop shape field with all over boteh lattice design with tiny goats and tribesmen across the middle and to the sides; indigo main border; ivory guards; the lower end of the rug with rows of multi-coloured stripes. Lustrous wool, soft palette and soft handle. A superb rug of unusual design, in excellent condition.

Qashqa'i double khorjin, Fars, south west Persia, circa 1930s, 3ft. 8in. X 2ft. (closed) 1.12m. X 0.61m. Slight wear in places. Dark blue piled faces each with a single medallion; ivory narrow border; terraccotta and pale yellow plainweave back and bridge with plaited wool loops. The plainweave back and bridge may not be contemporaneous.

Attractive 'boteh' rug by the Kashkuli taifeh of the Qashqa'i Confederacy, Fars, south west Persia, circa 1900, 7ft. 2in x 5ft. 1in. 2.18m. x 1.55m. Overall even wear; slight loss to ends. Dark blue diamond shaped field and terracotta spandrels with all over floral boteh, all beautifully drawn and each with a myriad of tiny flowerheads within; note the two tiny human figures at the foot on the indigo field and a small bird/animal motif in the lower right spandrel close to the indigo field; and another in the top of the upper right spandrel. Narrow light blue to dark blue boteh and flowerhead main border; pale gold and ivory guard stripes. Rich palette and velvety wool. Soft handle.
