Baluchi prayer rug, Mashad area of Khorasan, east Persia or Adraskand Valley area, west Afghanistan, late 19th century, 4ft.10in. x 2ft.10in. 1.47m. x 0.86m. Slight even wear overall, dark brown corroded. An attractive rug which, despite its overall dark tonality, actually has a palette of nine distinct colours - three browns, two red, two blues, yellow and ivory; complete with wide (and slightly worn) sumac-brocaded ends.
