A Dutch Oyster-Veneered Walnut, Ivory, Ebony and marquetry cabinet-on-stand, the rectangular moulded cornice above a pair of doors inlaid with geometric patterns of stars and circles and seaweed marquetry within chequer-banding, enclosing three shelves and inlaid with a star to the reverse of the doors, the lower section with further oyster-veneered and chequer banding above three frieze drawers flanked by marquetry panels, on ring-turned faceted tapering legs joined by a stretcher and on bun feet, restorations, adapted.H.211 W.175 D.56cm The parquetry pattern on the doors of this cabinet relates to a late 17th century cabinet in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (J.van Herck, Il Mobile Fiammingo, Milan, 1972, p.93, fig 99), and although lacking the seaweed marquetry, shares much in common with a cabinet from the collection of Peter Morris, Esq., Yester House, sold Sotheby's London, 14th December 1973, lot 162.Provenance: Christie's, 30th October, 1997
