Brass ring-nut richly engraved and with sides pierced with floral and geometrical motifs. Grip covered with gilded, metal rings (partially copper, silver and brass), richly decorated with filigree. Probably a work of Arabic, Turkish or Ottoman silversmith, as can often be observed with Moro objects. On a metallic, exhibition support. height 48 cm.

dating: Second quarter of the 19th Century provenance: Vietnam, Straight, iron, double-edged blade, of lozenge section, base with short inscription, copper ring-nut. Beautiful, ivory grip, richly embossed with floral motifs. Wooden scabbard with mounts in silver foil, finely engraved with floral motifs. Suspension ring. The shape of the Kiem resembles the Chinese sword jian. Its name derives from a Vietnamese saga: Fisherman Lé Than found an object in his net which he carried to his hut. Days later the Emperor Lé Loi passed by and the object shone which illuminated the house and it was evident that it was a blade. The emperor took the blade with him and mounted an ivory handle. Having done this, he noticed a magical force and managed to free Vietnam from the Chinese Ming. Returning to the lake where the blade was found he met a golden turtle who asked the Emperor to return the blade that belonged to the King of Dragons. The Emperor returned the sword and the lake was called from that day 'The Lake of the Restored Sword' . length 79 cm.

Very scarce. Most likely it belonged to a palace or a royal court.
