Marcelle Dorothy Shears [1926-1996]-A flamboyant costume design for a gentleman:-signed bottom rightwatercolour over pencil36 x 25cm,together with a collection of miniatures, sketch books, photographs and memorabilia by and connected to the artist.*Provenance. The Artist's Studio Collection, Bonhams 2003.*Biography. Marcelle Shears lived at Two Bridges, Dartmoor. She painted on ivory, vellum, plaster and glass. She produced a number of costume designs which were reproduced as prints for a mass market. Marcelle exhibited widely including the Royal Society of Miniature Artists as an elected member, The Royal Academy, The S.W.A. and The Hilliard Society.

Bearing an ivory label 'Liberty & Co. Ltd. London W.'. 72 cm (2ft 4 1/4in) across, 197cm (6ft 5 1/2in. high)
A Japanese carved ivory model of a Jinja (Shinto shrine) of pagoda outline: the pitched roof with carved floral decoration, the sides and back having carved panels of Immortals and dragons and similar decoration to the two hinged doors enclosing an Immortal with two attendants, on a rectangular floral decorated plinth base, the whole on a polished hardwood base, total height 30cm [some damage].

An 18th Century Anglo-Indian and chinoiserie decorated cabinet on stand:, with peony and chrysanthemum blossom and foliage heightened in gilt on a black lacquer ground, the cabinet with a hinged fall enclosing an ivory inlaid interior with stellar, foliate and lozenge geometric designs, containing an arrangement of six drawers, having a candle slide below and brass drop carrying handles to the sides, the stand on cabriole legs, terminating in pad feet, the cabinet 44.5cm (1ft 5 1/2in) wide, the stand 53cm (1ft 9in) wide, overall height 103.5cm (3ft 4 3/4in), with restorations.
A French ivory and painted brise fan: the leaf painted in gouache with a classical Roman scene with figures by stone columns in a landscape, the guards and sticks carved and pierced with figures, buildings, flowers and latticework, late 18th/early 19th century, 51 cm wide in glazed display case.
