MASSENET JULES: (1842-1912) French Composer. A good signed and inscribed hardback edition of the vocal and piano score for Manon, ('Opera-Comique en Cinq Actes et Six Tableaux'), by Jules Massenet, with a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Philippe Gille, published by Heugel & Co., Paris, n.d. (c.1894?). This edition of 391 pages is printed from Georges Hartmann's plates (PN G.H. 1356 & 1386) and features a half title page with decorative sepia vignette, a decorative sepia printed title page on ivory background, dedication page, named cast list from the premiere of 17th January 1884, index and Variante pour les Théâtres qui n'ont pas de Ballet at the end as well as decorative vignettes at the beginning of each act. Signed and inscribed by Massenet to the blank verso of the dedication page opposite the cast list, 'Hommage a Mr. Le Docteur Aumaitre - Massenet', and dated Paris, May 1894 in his hand. The composer has further added a musical quotation in his hand at the base of the page, comprising two bars of music from Manon. Handsomely bound in half morocco with marbled boards and endpapers, five raised bands to the spine featuring a gilt stamped title and repeated vignette. Additional InformationNot tested, no guarantees of working order, large area of damage and replacement/repair to the front of the plinth base where two panels have been applied but gaps still visible, feet section a replacement, dial with rubbing to painted detail, numerals and as stated, to naming. Hands are replacements, general wear and tear to the case, some dents, small losses, small splits, generally will need attention.
A 19th century mahogany cased eight day longcase clock with broken swan neck pediment above circular dial painted with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, rolling moon phase and indistinctly signed 'Wiggan Co[...]' and with gilt and floral detail to corners, with crossbanded arched door on rectangular plinth on associated rectangular base.Additional InformationCondition issues throughout, chips, scrapes, losses, nicks and gouges to the casing, scratches to the glass, rubbing to the dial throughout, the subsidiary seconds dial is very faded, further fading to the signature and some of the numerals, there is crazing throughout the dial, further rubbing and losses to the corner floral and gilt detail, there is only part of the original ivory escutcheon left, the clock has been treated for woodworm with some old benign holes visible, back boards are replacements and some splits and repairs to the casing, the housing for the finial is damaged, finial itself is damaged, a strip of replacement wood from finial down to first lip, heavy scraping where the door has been opened and caught.
An unusual group of six 19th century ivory carriage pass tokens, each inscribed for The Metropolitan Police, five from EYW Henderson, one from Charles Warren addressed to 'The King of Greece', 'The Danish Minister', 'Siamese Ambassador', 'The King of Portugal', 'The Argentine Republic' and 'The Turkish Ambassador', each approx 7 x 5cm, and presented on a mahogany board.
ROYAL WORCESTER; a large blush ivory porcelain semi globular vase painted with floral motifs and with gilt heightened floral border, on similarly decorated conical detachable stand on three paw supports and tripartite base, the upper part with Maple & Co of London gilt metal mounts (screw cover missing), both pieces marked in puce to bases, model 1590, date codes for 1892 and 1894, total height 43.5cm (af).Additional InformationThe rim of the vase with two chips to the mould rope twist lower rim, tarnish to the rim mounts, the stand: one part has a severe hairline crack running on each side (from top to base) the same part with chip to the front edge, another part of the base with hairline to underneath spreading from a firing imperfection spreading to one of the sides, the drop underneath the bowl has been broken off and crudely re-glued, the two major chips to the insides top rim, two further chips to outside and a loss to tip of the foliate scroll decoration directly beneath the rim, both pieces with traces of general wear such as rubbing to the gilt, minor surface wear, the leg attached to the part with extensive hairline running from top to base has been also broken off and professionally restored in the area of upper part of the acanthus leaf.

ADDED LOT A late 19th Century silver plated stilton scoop with carved ivory handle modelled as a branch, 23.5cm CONDITION REPORT: Generally good overall original condition with no “major” problems noted except for small amounts of silver plate which are coming away - one near the scoop itself the other mainly prevalent where the lot number string has been tied. The carved ivory “branch” shaped handle appears in perfect order with a nice deepening colour commensurate with age. This appears totally serviceable and is in good general overall condition commensurate with age.
