A good early Victorian mahogany tea chest in the form of a twin pedestal sideboard. The top hinges open to reveal a pair of caddies, a central blue glass sugar bowl and a pair of compartments, possibly for caddy spoons, each of these has a lid with an ivory finial. A French pressed burr maple snuff box with contemporary concealed miniature, the lid die stamped with a view of the COLONNE DE LA PLACE VENDOME, the underside with an engine turned pattern, the interior of the base with a threaded tortoiseshell liner revealing an amorous couple, the miniature finely painted in a bright palette on ivory in giltmetal mount, 8.8cm diameter, c1820 Literature: Another example is illustrated Pinto (E H), Treen and other Woden Bygones, 1969, plt 365 X and discussed pp347-348. According to Pinto, although such French pressed burr maple snuff boxes are not uncommon, examples with concealed miniatures are scarce, the more so when they retain such a well preserved, original erotic miniature as the present example. ++In pristine original condition, no cracking, splits, shrinkage or repairs

A George III tortoiseshell octagonal tea caddy, with ivory stringing, engraved silver monogram and keyplate, 12.5cm h, 13cm w ++In very good original condition, lacking the surround of stringing from the lid but retaining the original hinge and lock, the base slightly warped and coming away, visible in the illustration, this originally being faced with ivory, now lacking. Minute chip to one of the pieces of tortoiseshell with which the sides are veneered at the lower edge. the interior retaining the powdering oil. No re-veneering or repairs. A fine example, requiring some minor conservation work only
An Anglo Indian buffalo horn workbox, the slightly domed and radially veneered lid and fluted sides over a sandlewood carcass, the underside of the lid with a hinged flap with ivory lac border, on bun feet, 33 x 26cm; an Anglo Indian ivory veneered sandalwood pin cushion, both early 19th c (2) ++Both with losses and some lifting of the veneers in places, heavily encrusted with dirt and grime having been stored in an attic or similar. Restorable, the workbox lacking one of the four feet.
