Native American, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, Eskimo, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved walrus ivory tool, possibly a harpoon counterweight or a small breast yoke to help carry heavy packs, with openwork between the faces for weaving cord or sinew. The upper face is finely incised with an abstract avian visage flanked by wings, probably representing the revered Thunderbird. Size: 4.5" L x 1.625" W (11.4 cm x 4.1 cm)Bidders should be aware of the changing laws regarding commercialization of ivory and other product containing endangered species both on the Federal and State levels. A matched pair of brass barrel and action flintlock blunderbuss pistols by Waters & Co., with underside sprung bayonets marked 'Tho-Gill', locks marked 'No.131 Patent' and 'No.166 Patent', broken half cocked safety to one, side mounted ramrods, sliding steel trigger guard bayonet releases, Birmingham silver grotesque butt-plates with maker marks 'CF', one stamped for 1781, the other 'H' probably for 1780, 13in. (33cm.) long, 7¼in. (18.4cm.) brl.* Condition: * Condition: Brass areas over-cleaned with some loss of definition to wording, bright steel bayonet, Cock, Frizzen and trigger guard showing some ageing blemishes, bayonet releases both working with springs locking same into forward position (one spring weak), both stocks showing some bruising and no: 131 with small split to RHS above trigger guard, the differing numbers on each could relate to patents or a none consecutive numbered pair? One ram rod all wood the second with bone/ivory tip.

(11.4cm.) high, and the queen with a cross, both unscrew into four sections, the knights carved as horse's heads with reins and crest swept to the right, the rooks as open carved turrets surmounted by a billowing flag, unscrews into 4 sections, the bishops carved as clerics with vertical split mitres, unscrew into three pieces, within box with individual lined compartments, together with more modern board, 16½in. A large early 19th. century Dieppe ivory and ebony centrepiece in the form of a figure of Queen Elizabeth I holding globe and sceptre (sceptre top missing) standing on an ebony globe with ivory mounts and fleur de Lys over sphinx supports, the figure opening to reveal a triptych of the queen and her courtiers, the globe opening on the equator showing two scenes, the lower one of the queen at Tilbury, the upper one with small ships greeting her return to London after the Armada. Ht. figure 14cm., overall 28.5cm.
