An early 19th century portrait miniature, probably on ivory, reputedly Captain Thomas Troubridge (1758-1807). Troubridge commanded the ship Culloden at the Battle of Cape St Vincent 1797, going on to serve as Commander in Chief, East Indies Station during the Napoleonic wars. The portrait is in a decorated brass frame, 8cm x 6cm.

For further information please visit www.cites.org CONDITION REPORT: Lacquer box: Exterior with some minor wear to gilt decoration with a few small knocks to the edges, one dent to the bottom back edge and two cracks on the corners. Interior with wear to lacquer around hinges, catch and corners. Glazed case: Small areas of wear to front side where it looks like it may have snagged on the catch, otherwise in good order. Fan: Ivory sticks and ends are in good order. Some of the sticks have become unattached from the fan material. The fabric is browned in places, especially where it has been glued to the ivory. There are no holes or tears and the embroidery is in good order.
