A fine early 19th Century French ivory sewing compendium or etui, of cylinder form with the original outer protective ivory case, the compendium elaborately pierced with panels of flowers, hearts, bag pipes and an elegant woman with a dog, all on a pierced ground backed by coloured foil, domed top and base, the upper section fitted with a tape measure wound from the domed top and complete with an inked silk tape marked in nails with a Grecian key pattern to the reverse, the centre section with a needlecase as a four division reel, the lower section containing the original ivory thimble, 13.6cm, the original outer ivory case of plain form with split to upper section, 15cm (2) (From the collection of the late Helen Eastgate).
