Japanese carved ivory box and cover, decorated with a dragon, 6.5cm and an Indian ivory carving of a figure carrying a basket. (2) CONDITION REPORT: BOX:- Top slighlty grubby, a few small chips in the dragon decoration but generally in good condition. FIGURE:- front right strap of basket missing, quite dirty
Pair of late 19th century carved ivory boxes of circular section with figure panels to the lids, 4cm and another smaller, together with a carved bone tooth brush and scroll shaped container, 16cm. (4) CONDITION REPORT: TOOTHBRUSH:- good but small hole at top right back of brush. TOOTHBRUSH CONTAINER:- age crack from rim about 20mm. very dirty and marked. SMALL BOX:- cracks and piece missing to lid, re-glued top to sides. Base has small piece missing at footrim. PAIR OF BOXES:- one has crack to base and small crack at footrim otherwise okay, the other has small crack at rim of lid.
Japanese ivory carving of a giant anchor with children crawling over it. 27cm CONDITION REPORT: Generally good condition. some age cracks at base - disguised as ropes. Has been broken at top just below loop and re-glued. Core of tusk slightly detached from outer tusk at centre of carving- natural. Two age cracks on anchor claws. Incised to red tablet at base
Japanese carved ivory okimono of a Samurai, a boy by his side, holding a miniature shrine, 10.5cm, wooden base, signature to base Meiji CONDITION REPORT: Overall rather yellow. Stand in good condition. possibly something (box?) missing from table- there is a recess. Samurai has very slight loss to front of skirt (the right hand swag) the small figure at his side with inlaid eyes, fine crack to head from fore head to top of right eye, another fine crack from neck to bow or shawl. Samurai has a very fine cracks running down right hand side of his face, hat to mid cheek.
Japanese carved ivory figure of a farmer holding a rope, naturalistic base, signed, 19.5cm, Meiji/Taisho. CONDITION REPORT: Generally good condition, one discoloured fine crack from top of head down right hand side of face. Suspect replacement handle of axe head and lower handle, evidence of glue. Some fine age cracks to centre of rocky base.
Japanese carved ivory figure of a street performer with drum and fan, a monkey standing on his shoulders, signed to oval base, 19.5cm, Meiji. CONDITION REPORT: Generally good condition. Crack at the monkey's right ankle, slightly open at front, may not have been off completely. Age crack to base which shows at top between figure feet. Fine age crack to outer right hand foot and to back of ankle on same foot. Otherwise good condition if slightly dirty.
Group of ivory and bone sewing items, late 19th and early 20th century including needle cases, bobbins, an ivory thread box and two curved and pierced circular boxes, 4cm and 3.5cm and a bone pen with Stanhope. (10) CONDITION REPORT: PEN:- Okay, rather rough at top, the Stanhope is of Zaragoza. NEEDLECASE:- Stanhope missing, crack to length of the lid, slight nibbles to base. LARGER BOX:- good condition. SMALLER BOX:- two tiny cracks to lid edge. BOX WITH TURNED TOP:- small age cracks to interior of base. BOBBINS:- slight wear, one has some age cracks. SMALL NEEDLECASE:- okay condition.
