A FINE JAPANESE CARVED ELEPHANT IVORY FIGURE GROUP, Bijin and child, standing wearing a prunus decorated kimono, holding a child on her right shoulder as a lap dog paws her hem, signed with four incised characters and seal, c.1910, 20.5cm high. See illustration Condition report Small element in Bijin hair lost. Slight yellowing on Bijin neck. Generally good throughout - fine drying crack to face of child (no discolouration to crack) no other cracks or chips observed.
A FINE JAPANESE CARVED ELEPHANT IVORY MYTHOLOGICAL GROUP as a Samurai hauling a huge conch shell while being attacked by six mischievous Kappa, six character seal mark, Meiji Period (1868-1912), 10.5cm high. See illustration Condition report One Kappa with section from head missing, crack in another Kappa's hand. Two cracks in rope at the back of conch. Darkening colour to reverse.
A Japanese Meiji period Shibayama style wall hanging cabinet with phoenix carved and pierced foliate pediment above a compartment with sliding doors flanked by shelves, above further shelf and cupboard, elaborately ivory and mother of pearl inlaid with birds and floral sprays, height 100cm. CONDITION REPORT: Losses to some of the very small inlaid detail. The legs of the hawk are a modern synthetic replacement. Rubbing to gilding and general wear comensurate with age.
A 19th century Indian carved ivory figure group of an elephant carrying a howdah with two nobles surrounded by four guards on rectangular base, height 15cm, and a figure of a goddess, height 11cm (af). CONDITION REPORT: Splits to elephant, main section ok. Four figures are at fault but overall in OK condition.
A Royal Worcester blush ivory globular twin handled vase with slender tapering neck, painted and gilt heightened with floral sprays to both sides, marked in puce to base, no.1761, height 25cm, and a further similarly decorated footed example with twin mask handles, marked in green to base, no.1759, height 26.5cm (af) (2). CONDITION REPORT: The footed vase has got an extensive restoration to the neck and rim, rubbing to the gilt some surface dirt.
A Chinese carved soapstone figure of a seated man with pronounced ribs carrying a lily pad on his back, height 7cm, a carved ivory pendant modelled as one of the immortals holding a peach, and a circular enamel paste box hand painted with landscape and decorative bands, bearing four character mark to base, diameter 8cm (af) (3). CONDITION REPORT: Cracks to pendant and stained. Crack to soapstone figure. Box is very dirty and has surface scratches, also loss to the enamel.
A Chinese carved ivory seal decorated with blossoming branches, signed to one face and bearing paper labels, height 6.25cm, a small carved pierced jade seal, height 4.5cm and a jade buckle, length 8cm (af) (3).
