Y AN EBONY AND EBONISED, IVORY MARQUETRY INLAID CABINET ON STAND PROBABLY ITALIAN, LATE 17TH CENTURY The cabinet with arrangement of drawers around a central cupboard, the cupboard presenting a panel depicting 'Our Lady of the Sacred Heart', the base with bobbin-turned supports 125cm high, 63cm wide, 38cm deep Provenance: Bonhams, Pictures, Furniture, Tribal, Islamic and European Works of Art, 12th June 2013, Lot 551Please note, Dreweatts have applied for a de minimis exemption licence for the ivory in this lot (Ref:RGPFC94S) Condition Report: There are minor losses and splits to veneers on the sides, some re-ebonising to colour in the losses. Some splits in the central ivory panel (depicting the Christian allegorical figure of Charity). Behind the central door is a recess with a mirror at the rear, and a shelf above which was originally fitted with a vertical division, now lacking. The cabinet was originally fitted with a fall front, fixed at the lower edge - there are four filled screw holes along the lower edge and two striking points in the upper edge for the flap to be held in place. The back panel has a horizontal split and a small replaced horizontal strip along the lower edge. The stand is sturdy but a little wobbly. Condition Report Disclaimer
