A 19th century ivory and tortoiseshell circular box inset with a glazed plaque to the detachable lid painted with a young female with basket of flowers within gilt metal border, diameter 4.5cm (af), and a bone snuff box with hinged lid (2).Additional InformationThe circular box with major losses to the inside rim where the lid is overlapping, the lower tortoiseshell detailed border is detached from the main body and needs re-gluing, possibly similar details both to lid and main body other edges but there is no trace of them, areas of minor scuffs, general surface wear and dirt commensurate with age, the bone snuff box with surface dirt and where and with misshapen side which is sticking out from the main body causing an approximately 1mm slot between the main body and lid, metal hinges tarnished, also a small crack to front part of the box.

NAPOLEONIC INTEREST; a 19th century French gilt metal lady's hand mirror with foliate scroll detail and inset gouache on ivory portrait miniature depicting Josephine, length 31cm, and a similar gilt metal jewellery box of shaped outline with inset gouache on ivory portrait miniature depicting Napoleon signed 'Dicà' with green velvet lined interior (possibly done later), width 11.5cm (2). It is posited that the hand mirror may have once belonged to Josephine herself as the portrait possibly depicts a flower which grows only on Martinique the Isle of her birth.Additional InformationParticularly on the hand mirror there is discolouration and rubbing to the gilt, the bevelled glass has a chip to the lower right and further wear including some visible discolouration and indeed possible damage where attached to the backplate, the interior of the jewellery box possibly relined as stated, some discolouration and rubbing to the gilt, particularly on the raised surfaces but generally appears in ok condition. The mirror has several dents to the back and glass is slightly loose.
