George III silver pear shaped coffee pot with an ivory handle, London 1762, 26oz 13 dwt (marks rubbed). NB it is the responsibility of bidders to be aware of and to comply with the regulations concerning the commercial use of ivory before purchasing this lot. Condition report: maker's mark illegible, sterling, London and date marks just visible; sterling mark only on lid collar and possible alteration where the hinge joins the lid; no inscriptions and no obvious rubbing out on the body; the spout does not have a strainer; general minor bruising; no splits or holes, no obvious repairs; base inscribed M.J. and the weight 25.11; the ivory handle has some natural cracks.

Condition report: some natural cracks in the ivory; one of the front teeth maybe broken or it may be part of the design; we do not know if the skull ever had a lower jaw; the skull is hollow.

Devotion to the general and scholar, who died in 220AD, grew over time and reached an apotheosis in 1614, when the Emperor Wanli bestowed the title "Saintly Emperor Guan the Great God Who Subdues Demons of the Three Worlds and Whose Awe Spreads Far and Moves Heaven".

Working from 1834 at Vienna's Burgtheater, she was celebrated until her death as a 'veteran comic'.
