A Japanese Meiji period very elaborately carved and stained ivory okimono of a cormorant fisherman, the extremely well carved figure in exquisite detail of a standing fisherman with his cormorants, wearing a multi-layered garment and palm leaf skirted apron, taking with his right hand a carp from the beak of one of his birds, its neck constrained by the rope held in his left hand, the other cormorant resting on his left arm. A finely detailed wicker creel filled with fish lies at his feet, a wallet and knife at his waist, the base with a carved signature of Ko “?” on a red lacquer. 19th/20th century, 20.5cm highIn very good condition
