The paper country has ivory appliqués used for the faces of some of the characters portrayed, as is usual in this type of piece. The scene that develops as a frieze, following the structure of the country itself, shows a scene with a courtly theme, where architecture and nature merge together. This type of fan, so called because of the application of small ivory plaques for the faces, is characterised by the hand-painted paper country, with large scenes set in gardens, inspired by the ancient Chinese court.
