Lot 692

An Oriental cane, with Shibayama and ivory handle, signed, decorated with insects and with silver coloured collar beneath the handle. Length 87.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The handle is in generally very good condition with no losses to any of the insects. The ivory itself has numerous old stress marks and patination marks but there are no significant open or recent cracks. The metal collar below the handle is in good order. The holes for the lanyard are original and silver coloured metal mounted. The shaft is basically straight with no distortion or splitting that we can see. It is a good colour. The bottom tip is a little dented but firmly in place and in good overall condition.

Lot 761

Two late 19th/early 20th century Japanese carved ivory female figures. Heights 16 cm and 12.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The smaller figure has a hairline crack to the right hand side of the face through the hair. There is another oval black mark on the bun. There is a stress fracture across the front section of the sleeve of the kimono. There are further stress marks beneath the base. It looks as if the piece has been on a base as there is evidence of glue around the rear of the piece. It would also appear that the front toes are missing. As stated there is either a significant loss here or the piece has been fitted into a base. The larger figure has a loss to the rear fan and evidence of old glue. There is a stress fracture to the sleeve of the right hand facing arm in two places. There is a break to the rear of the figures jacket. There has been a break to the base which has been reglued. The signature tablet to the base is missing. Both figures are not in the base of condition.

AMENDMENT TO CATALOGUE A rare Georgian bone (not ivory) seal/needle case marked as a perpetual calendar. Length 6.6cm. Condition Report: A few very slight dents to the bone. Bone is slightly stained in some areas. The black has worn away from some of the numbers. Screw top is fully functional but stiff when almost fully closed.
