A midshipman’s dirk, double edged, shallow diamond section blade 6¼”, with 3 blued “flames” on both sides for three quarter length, plain brass crossguard and lower ring to turned, shaped, hardwood grip and flattened ivory pommel, in its brass sheath with frog stud, engraved bands, and stamped “Culloden” at the top. A Victorian General officers’ 1831 pattern mameluke sword, curved plated blade 30½”, marked Ranken & Co Calcutta at forte, and etched on both sides with crowned VR cypher, crossed baton and sword, and wreaths within panels, ornamental copper crossguard and langets incorporating crossed baton and sword, backstrap to ivory grips (small cracks) with rosettes and pierced for gilt knot (worn), in its brass scabbard with 2 rings. Good Condition the blade retaining most original finish. Plate 21
A United States artillery officers’ sword, c 1810, curved, shallow fullered blade 30”, etched with trophies and flourishes, blued and gilt for half length, with plain etched floral inset panels, gilt hilt, the guard slotted (as for British 1803 pattern swords) the knucklebow incorporating 3 diminishing circles each containing a grenade, pronounced eagle’s head pommel, facetted backstrap, panelled ivory grip (cracked), in its leather scabbard with gilt chape, middle band and locket, 2 suspension rings. Very Good Condition for age, the blade retaining approx 80% blueing and gilding, the hilt and scabbard mounts approx 85% gilt (some wear to scabbard leather, chape dented). Plate 21

A Japanese black lacquer cabinet, c.1900, with a variety of different sized doors, drawers and shelves, in tones of gold lacquer with monkeys amongst foliage on a midnight-blue ground, the lower section of drawers decorated with flowers and leaves, and with ivory handles, 80cm wide 35.5cm deep 123cm high CONDITION REPORT: Wear, large split to right-hand side. Lacquer missing from around the base. Chips and cracks to the lacquer to the sides, edges and base. Otherwise usual wear.
