A late 19th Century Aesthetic Movement ebonised side chair, the frame inset with square ivory panels around the stylised leather inset back panel and conforming over-stuffed studded seat pad, with further inlaid motif to the reverse depicting cherubs amongst acanthus foliage, all raised to an acanthus detailed stretcher frame.

A French gilt bronze and ivory mounted ink stand, circa 1880, probably by Ferdinand Duvinage, the central urn shaped well with hinged cover, with inset fruitwood foliate marquetry, above twin ram's heads, a vacant escutcheon with laurel sprigs at the front, the cartouche shaped base with twin recesses with hinged covers with (later replaced) ivorine veneers, on six toupie feet, 13cm high, 25cm wide In 1867, the Maison Alphonse Giroux (founded 1799), was taken over by Duvinage and Harinkouck. From 1870 until his death, the firm was under sole direction of Ferdinand Duvinage and was renowned for its exotic and Japonisqe creations in the decorative arts. The type of highly decorative marquetry featured on the present lot was patented in 1877 and was probably first shown at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1878.
