Bordjalou Kazak prayer rug, south west Caucasus, late 19th century, 4ft. 4in. X 3ft. 4in. 1.32m. X 1.02m. Repairs to small crease marks to sides. Rich terracotta mihrab with two dark blue lozanges and two pale green lozenges in the field with filler ornaments of flowerheads and four animals at the lower end. The prayer arch with an ivory cartouche with a date 1312 (AH) [1894 AD] with a 9 either side; ivory main border of foliate X motifs in a variety of colours; dark brown trailing vine outer border.
