MABEL LEE HANKEY "Head and shoulder portrait of a lady", a miniature oil on ivory, signed and in silver frame (London 1903, by Charles and Walter Paget) and original case (believed to be of Lady Jane Seymour Combe), 9 cm x 7 cm CONDITION REPORTS The oval silver frame has some wear and scuffs, the hallmarks and makers marks have some rubbing. Frame hallmarked London 1903 by C & WPt (Charles and Walter Paget). Folding travelling case is quite worn and fabric is very deteriorated and frayed. Oval miniature portrait itself appears to be in good condition.
19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL "Oriental gentleman with long grey beard", a miniature portrait study, oil on ivory with gilt highlights, 7 cm x 5.5 cm CONDITION REPORTS Paper to back of frame has been torn away. There is currently some scrunched up paper glued to the back of the picture. Painting has quite a lot of wear and most of the right side of the face has been worn away. Overall wear and scuffs.
A nineteenth century Japanese ivory figure depicting two men clutching a vine, together with four miniature ivory figures of the same period. (5) CONDITION REPORT: The larger figure showing some areas of damage, missing a staff perhaps. The smaller figures in time-aged condition, some areas discoloured suggesting bone rather than ivory perhaps.
Two Japanese carved ivory netsukes Meiji period, one an ink pot, modelled in the form of a scribe at work with brush in his hand, ink pot and paper sat on small table top, a squat ovoid pot balanced on his head for the deposit of ink, iron red and black painted decoration, signed, 4.9cm. high; the other carved as a startled male figure guarding his two offspring, black, iron red and gold decoration, signed, 4.8cm. high. An Iznik oviform vase 19th / early 20th century, with short neck and everted rim, on a shallow unglazed foot, decorated with all over floral and foliate decoration in blue, turquoise, green and red-brown issuing from three vertical saz leaves, on an ivory ground, 10¼in. An impressive Indian ivory and marquetry inlaid rosewood table casket first half of 20th century, of rectangular form with coffered top with a hinged cover enclosing velvet lined storage over a carved floral and foliate frieze, the main lid also opening to reveal a similar storage compartment, the casket inlaid all over in ivory, various exotic woods and penwork with scenes of elephants in woodland, birds in flight above, the moulded outset base raised on turned toupie feet, 19¾ x 13½in. A Channel Islands inlaid mahogany bowfronted chest of drawers c.1835, the rosewood cross banded top over four long graduated drawers, with ivory escutcheons, boxwood stringing and pressed brass rosette ring handles, on swept bracket feet united by a boxwood strung wavy apron centred by a four pointed star, 39¾ x 21¾in. (101 x 55.25cm.), 37½in. (92.5cm.) high.
A Regency inlaid walnut tea caddy of sarcophagus form, with kingwood and Tunbridge style micro banding and boxwood and ebony strung edges, the cavetto moulded lid opening to reveal a red morocco lined interior with two hinged removable compartments and blown glass mixing or sugar bowl, cast gilt brass foliate ring handles to sides, ivory kite form escutcheon, supported on four cast gilt brass paw feet, 12½ x 6½in. A silk leaf fan circa 1775, central cloud form reserve with hand painted portrayal of two lovers flanked by two large hand painted and sequined floral sprays, ivory sticks alternating in groups of two from pierced and silk strung to complete with silvered demi lune design, stick guards pierced with emblems of love, 11in. (28cm.) long.
A 19th century Japanese embroidered silk fan case the ivory silk case finely embroidered in silk thread with a water lily to one side and a dragonfly and butterfly above an iris to the other, a linghxi fungi to the top of either side, the green ribbon handle with rose quartz toggle, 11½in. (29.25cm.) long, splits.
