Caucasian sumac brocaded 'dragon' zileh, second half 19th century, 11ft. 7in. X 4ft. 4in. 3.53m. X 1.32m. Some areas of wear; corrosion to dark brown; small repairs; braiding to top end; lined and with hanging loop at top end.The 'dragon' motifs alternately ivory and dark blue, with bands of geometric motifs around the 'dragons' and individual flowers in the tops of the 'dragons'. Medachyl outer guard on the ends and one long side, indicatiing that this was once part of a much larger piece. Cf. Bennett, I. Op. Cit. Pp. 360-363, pls. 475-478 for a discussion of this group.
Shirvan hexagon column runner, south east Caucasus, second half 19th century, 9ft. 11in. X 3ft. 5in. 3.02m. X 1.04m. Overall even wear; small repairs; damage/'bite' to selvedge right side top; lacking end borders and possibly outer guards to the selvedges. Pale blue field with hexagonal medallions surrounded by a variety of small filler ornaments; ivory interlock main border; pale yellow and pale blue rosette guards. Soft palette and soft handle.
Kazak 3-medallion rug, south west Caucasus, dated 1334 (AH) [1915 AD] 8ft. 4in. X 5ft. 3in. 2.54m. X 1.60m. Overall wear, heavy in places; corrosion to dark brown; repairs and repiling; crease mark to lower right corner; fabric tape to lower end verso; 'bite' to top left corner. Light terracotta field with three medallions; small filler ornaments including two pairs of deer; inner frame of rosettes linked by candystripe bands; dark brown strapwork and floral main border; ivory and terracotta guards. Soft palette and soft handle.
Veramin corridor carpet, north central Persia, late 19th century, 12ft. 8in. X 6ft. 3.86m. X 1.83m. Overall even wear. The dark blue field divided into four rectangles, each with two columns of octagons within squares linked by a terracotta lattice with a variety of filler ornaments, including an occasional small animal, the top two panels each woven the date 1299 (AH) [1881 AD] within a rectangle; the field divided by an ivory band of stars within octagons repeated in the ivory main border within soft yellow 'S' motif guards. Narrow braided ends. Lustrous wool and rich palette; soft handle.
Baluchi rug of diagonal Memlinc gul design, Khorasan, north east Persia, circa 1930s-40s, 5ft.6in. X 3ft. 1.68m. X 91cm. Slight wear in places. The field of diagonal Memlinc guls within octagon lattice, the intersections with ivory details; narrow camel main border of stylized leaf and calyx design. cf. Boucher, J. Earthy-red diamond shape field with centre medallion; dark blue spandrels each with an ivory flowerhead medallion; brown boteh main border.
Good Timuri 'Baluch' rug, borderlands of north east Persia and north west Afghanistan, late 19th century, 5ft. 9in. X 5ft. 1.75m. X 1.52m. Corrosion to dark brown in places. The field filled with stylized tree of life, the palmettes emanating from a central vertical narrow stripe; inner earthy-red border of geometric motifs; outer ivory border of linked 'bat'-type motifs within typical guards. Hanging rings to left selvedge. Finely woven in a rich, dark palette in lustrous, velvety wool with a superb soft handle. cf. Boucher, J. op. cit. pp.126-128, pls. 53-55 and p. 138-140, pls. 59 & 60 for various Timuri rugs.
Khamseh rug, Fars, south west Persia, circa 1930s-40s, 6ft. 3in. X 3ft. 11in. 1.91m. X 1.20m. Slight wear with corrosion to dark brown in places. Triple pole medallion on a light blue field with bird, boteh and medallion ornaments; striped spandrels and outer ivory border; inner rosette border. Lustrous wool; soft palette and soft handle.
Baluch 'bird' khorjin, Khorasan, north east Persia, late 19th century, 4ft. 2in. (opened out) X 1ft. 11in. 1.27m. X 0.57m. Some corrosion to dark brown in places. The dark blue face with a centre dark brown bird outlined in ivory surrounded by four dark brown birds outlined in terracotta; brocaded flatweave top with remains of plaited wool loops; narrow banded flatweave back. Lustrous, velvety wool. cf. Boucher, J. op. cit. p. 114, pl. 48 for a similar bag but with more birds and p. 142, pl. 61 for a very similar Timuri Baluch example.

Kashmiri prayer rug, north India, mid-20th century, 6ft. 3in. x 4ft. 1in. 1.91m. X 1.25m. Slight loss to flatweave ends. Rust red mihrab with centreal vase of flowers, a pillar to each side and cypress trees extending out of the field to each side; dark blue floral panel above the prayer arch; ivory floral main border.

A young musician plucking a stringed instrument with a portrait of the famous poet, Hafiz, in the lower left corner on a pale green ground with ivory cartouches of inscriptions in opposing corners.

Remains of braided flatweave ends. Dark brown field with all over flowering plant and boteh with random pale blue and ivory birds hiding in the field; terracotta floral main border within two pale yellow lozenge and flowerhead guards.

Red cotton ground embroidered in silk and wool with all over flowers in ivory and yellow within dark brown floral surrounds; the black cotton border embroidered with flowers and foliage. Hanging loops to one long edge. Unlined.

Dark blue centre medallion on an earthy-red cartouche shape field with ivory and pale blue spandrels; all over scrolling flowers and foliage; dark blue floral main border and earthy-red floral guards. Close clipped velvety wool.
Esfahan prayer rug, central Persia, early 20th century, 7ft. 5in. X 4ft. 7in. 2.26m. X 1.40m. Overall even wear; slight discolouration/surface mark to field on right side centre. Mellowed ivory mihrab with large vase of flowers at the base, the flowers filling the field; light red spandrels above the prayer arch woven with intertwined strapwork; red floral main border and three pairs narrow guards. Close clipped velvety wool and relatively soft handle.
