Antique pair Japanese carved ivory figures including a Chinese gentleman, Tobosaku, (Tung Fang So), who was the advisor of Wung Ti, of the Han Dynasty, (221AD), who became an Immortal. The other figure is a woman with peaches. She is Seiobo, (Si Wang-Mu), the queen of the fairies. She is also called Kitai Kimbo, and is perhaps a transformation of Indra. Each figure is carved and signed by Hidemitsu. Provenance: each figure was acquired by the vendor's family in Hawaii during the 1960s. A French Art Nouveau bronzed spelter and green onyx clock garniture after Julian Causse, early 20th century, with a classical beauty seated upon a naturalistic knarled tree with floral decoration, with painted patination, enclosing an eight day bell strike movement with ivory enamel dial signed 'Fonderies & Cuiveries Liegeoises', on a stepped green onyx octagonal base, with title plaque 'Voix de la Lyre, Par J Causse (Sculptr.)', 20¼in. (51.5cm.) high; the two three branch garniture candelabra with similar classical figures, one onyx base a/f. (3)* Condition: Onyx bases – main clock abse and one candelabra base have some damage. The clock base has a small chip and repaired cracks to back left corner, repaired cracks to front left corner and a long crack with some chipping along its length to RH side. One of the candelabra bases has a large chip from one corner and that half of the base section is broken into several pieces and is coming away from the upper section (it is held in place only by the baize).Spelter: The tip of one branch beside the clock figure has been off and has an old glued repair, which is giving way. There is a paint blister to the back of one of the candelabra figures’ neck. Otherwise the figures are good.Clock: Lacks pendulum and key so cannot test to see if working. Dial VG.
