Stefano della Bella (1610-1664) The Medici Vase Etching and engraving, circa 1656, on ivory laid paper with watermark of an encircled head, the second state, a well inked impression, with 1-2 mm. margins, sheet 311 x 282 mm. (12 1/4 x 11 1/4 in), unframed. Literature: De Vesme 832 ii ⁂ "Generally considered the earliest and most beautiful of the numerous renditions of the famed Medici Vase." The young Cosimo III de' Medici, Stefano della Bella's pupil and the future Grand Duke of Tuscany, is shown drawing the Medici Vase; the monumental vase- executed in white marble and created in Athens in the first century A.D.- features a frieze of Iphigenia crouching beneath a statue of Diana flanked by warriors. One of many highly celebrated ancient artworks collected by the Medici family in the 16th century, and kept at their Roman villa.

A Victorian four-piece silver-plated tea and coffee set with registration design lozenge for 27th February, 1867, squat baluster form on pierced foliate scroll and mask feet, beaded rims, fruit finials, ivory insulators, sides embossed with scrolls and flowers around vacant reserves, the scalloped and mask-embellished spouts terminating in eagle heads, gilt interiors to sugar bowl and cream jug.In excellent condition, all plating intact.
Grainger Worcester. A porcelain two handled globe vase in blush ivory, the upper half and handles reticulated in curvilinear patterns, the lower half with hand painted floral sprays. This vase bears the black backstamp of the Royal China Works, Worcester with the date letter I for 1899 during the period when the Royal Worcester company had acquired Grainger and Co. but before extending its standard mark and dot dating system to the Grainger output. Ht. 15cm. In very good condition, no chips, cracks, restoration or other defects noted.
John Smart (c.1740-1811), portait miniature of a lady in lilac dress with fur and bead trim, her light brown hair dressed with pearls, circa 1775, on ivory, signed "J.S" to right, the back covered in brown paper and inscribed in an old hand "J. Smart", 4.6 cm. long.Provenance:- By family descent to the present vendor.Good condition.

A. Kelsall from her affec.te Brother Thos. Stephens, 1831". Wt. 744 gm.Pin on upper junction of handle protrudes a bit, a tiny ding to one flute otherwise sound.
