Rare and fine 17th century carved ivory spectacle case of Scottish importance with pair of period sunglasses. The ivory case of rectangular form with carved roundel decoration and silver hinges and hook clasp. The interior of the lid engraved and stained with figure of Saint Andrew carrying the cross flanked by AS initials and date 1663. A very large and impressive 19th century cutler's Exhibition or Advertising carving knife, with an intricately carved ivory handle, surmounted by a carved recumbent lion and with two front panels, one panel depicting Neptune in a chariot, drawn by a pair of sea-horses and the other carved with roses, thistles, shamrocks, and a daffodil. The back of the handle is plain and the silver plated ferrule is embossed with an image of hunting dog. The curved blade is etched on one side with scrolling floral decoration and engraved 'A Darwin & Son, Sheffield, England'. 100cm overall length.

Fine 19th century Chinese export carved and stained ivory chess/droughts/backgammon pieces, set of 32 pieces decorated with Chinese figures, horses and elephants in lacquer counter box, together with a pair of red and white carved ivory dice shakers (35)Condition report: The box has some losses to the sides, but the top is in good order. The shakers are in good condition with a few tiny losses. The pieces are in good overall condition. One white piece has been reglued and one red piece has a small overpainted loss. Some other tiny nicks commensurate with age and use. Counters and shakers weigh approx 239.2g in total.
